A local shop is selling a used Ruger Vaquero in 45LC for $400.

It looks like the same one featured here:
http://www.gunblast.com/ruger_bisley_vaquero.htm

Its highly polished SS with ivory (fake obviously) grips and other than a few scuffs here and there its in very good condition. It says "old model" on the tag but I'm not sure if that's significant or not.

I've been wanting a new "old west" style gun since I don't have one presently and I really liked the look and feel of this Vaquero. I'm just not sure about the price.

Appreciate some help in making my decision, thanks.

The price is about what I'd expect to see around here in north Texas. I'd ask if they'd take 350, just because ya never know... By "old model" (not to be confused with OM, or 3-screw Blackhawks) I believe they mean its one of the earlier ones which had a stronger cylinder than the current Vaqueros, and also--I believe--the XR3red grip frame which is a little larger than the ones coming out now. I bought one in .45 back in about '96 or so. Great shooter.

Like DennisB sez, the "Old Model" Vaquero is the original version and is stouter than the current New Vaquero. In my experience, the original Vaqs can digest heavy "bear" loads with ease. The New Vaq is intended for the milder original .45 colt loading. The term "Old Model" is not an official designation and will not be stamped on the firearm.

Well I decided to go ahead and buy it. Its really in much better condition than I thought when I went back and looked at it. I would say its about 98% and came with the original box. The Model number stated on the box sticker is 00558 if that means anything.

Anyway thanks for the input and I'll post a "new gun purchase" thread with some pics soon.
