I have an opportunity to buy a S&W Model 19-2 blued .357 Magnum, 6" barrel from the original owner. Owner purchased it new in 1965. Fired approximately 150 rounds only. What's a fair price for this piece. It is in near new condition.

Thanks!
Joe

I would think something like $325-$375. I bought one with Target Trigger, Target Hammer, Target Grips, Red Ramp, White Outline in near mint condition for $300 about 3 years back. I bought a rougher one for $275 the year before that cause I had to have it (had a bad dent in the frame and was about 80% blue). My buddy bought a newer one without all the target options (it did have factory fingergrove grips, not original) and non-pinned for $220 last spring. It was mint. These were all 6" guns. Expect to pay more for a 6" than a 4" because there are a lot of 4" police trade-ins out there. These guns are going up and if you keep it clean it is a great investment!!

That depends on what state you are in and if it comes with the original box and tools and stuff. It can be anywhere from 350~500 just depends.

In my area it would be $250-300. I disagree with Jet on the barrel desirability. The police trade-ins are not in the same class as a LNIB revolver. The six inch barrel would decrease the marketability a bit, I would think in this condition. Barrel length is an individual and subjective thing though. Aftermarket grips would also drop the value for many buyers.

I bought this Model 19-4 not long ago san box and extras for $279. Yeah, I was happy with the deal!

I was not suggesting one was more desireable than the other, just that you see a lot more 4" barrels than 6" barrels, at least in my area, and that tends to keep the prices lower. We also see a lot of Sig 226's with nightsights (well under $300) in my area because the Michigan State Police sold them cheap to officers.

Who wouldn't be??

Thanks a lot for the input! That's kind of the range I was thinking (and hoping for). I'll send him an offer and see what happens.

Best Regards,

If it is anything

like my 4" 19-3 you will be happy with it whatever you pay. Nice DA trigger, very nice SA, big, beefy grips, nice sights. An all around thing of beauty.
Good Luck.

Grandpa tried and couldn't get $350 out of a model 66 (same thing only SS if I understand right) in nearly new condition...it was in the box, not sure if it had ever been fired or not. A few lookers at the gun show, but no takers. I'd say $300 would be about right since it's not SS.

I'am thinking on the order of 350-400 dollars,
it's going to be a P&R gun with no lock.Does
it have the box, papers and anything else that
came with it ?,that will increae the value
somewhat.

A 6" 19-2 in like new condition is worth a lot more than $300, especially if it has the box and tools. The earlier model 19s like this one are more desirable to most S&W collectors than a stainless model 66. The 6" barrel was introduced in 1963, and is less common than the usual 4" guns. Another point to consider is that since S&W discontinued the K frame magnums, they have been increasing in price. If this gun has the original grips (They should be target grips with a diamond around the screw escutcheons on each grip panel) and original box and tools, and is genuinely in like new condition, it is probably worth around $500 to $550. Without the box or original grips it is about a $400 gun.

Depends a lot on where you are.

In the MD area I think it would go for $400 easy (but this is a screwed up state!). Even outside of such a nasty place it should bring $350+.

I paid $400 for one recently and was happy to do so.

Thank you all for sharing your expertise. I did purchase it last night. $295 with holster and two boxes of cartridges.

Beautiful gun! Excellent deal! The good thing about it? You can shoot and shoot and shoot, and as long as you care for it, it will never be worth less than what you paid!

Do go to this thread on the S&W Forum and learn about the ammunition limitations and forcing cone issues prior to shooting, OK? Barrels are no longer available for the Model 19, and a cracked forcing cone means the demise of the revolver.

Ya done good!!

But, keep in mind that "stealing" of firearms is considered a felony in most jurisdictions.. If your conscience gets to bothering you, let me know and I'll take it off your hands..

Well done! You'll be more than pleased w/ her ;) I bought a 19-3 a few years ago and it is just an awesome performer! Congrats :D
