I need help "again" :). A local gun store has a used 870 Wingmaster for sale for $299.00 plus tax. the 870 seems to be in very nice condition, it has a 28" barrel full choke, will except 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. I plan to use it for trap shooting. Is this a OK deal? I know it's not a Great deal but am I being taken to the cleaners? Any thoughts?

Thanks...

For a Wingmaster (not an Express) that would be a decent price here. Not a trap guy, but I would imagine that it would do fine.

That price seems a little bit high to me, unless the gun's in spectacular condition.

For $250, I'd jump on it, but the fact that you don't have interchangeable chokes seems like a distinct disadvantage.

If it were me, I'd try to talk them down a bit.

A couple things...

The price is on the high side UNLESS....

The serial number has an M suffix. That means Magnum reciever, it takes both a Magnum receiver and barrel to shoot 3" shells.

It's in excellent shape, perhaps with pretty wood. And, a recoil pad.The early ones, even the Maggie Numbs, came with plates.

The barrel should be ribbed.

But, $300 for an immortal pump that will work for casual trap, waterfowl and uplands work is not a bad deal. A short second barrel will set you up for deer and HD.

HTH...

Thanks for all of your input. The 870 is not in excllent shape but the wood is very nice, it dose have a ribbed barrel. I did not check for a M on the receiver but it dose have a recoil pad. I think I will call the dealer to see if they will give me the serial # so I can check on when it was manufactured. Again thanks for the help.
