I met a guys who's selling his Ruger GP161 blue. He had it for about a year now and shot 250 rds thru it. He wants $250 including holster.

Can it be replaced with 4 inch barrel?

Is that a good buy?

TIA,
vega

Greeting's Vega-

If the Ruger GP-161 is LNIB, that would be a good buy in my
locale. To some, the price might seem out of line; but blued
weapons are making a comeback (like they ever went any
where?), in this day and age of stainless steel. If the GP-161
can pass Jim March's revolver check-out; then jump on it!

*FootNote- The Ruger factory can change the barrel to a 4"
if you would like, but at a nominal cost. Quite frankly, I think
I would keep the 6" incher.

Actually I wasn't able to handle the firearm. Another person was checking it and I just asked for the price. We exchange numbers and I'll give him a call on Saturday to check if made a deal with the other guy. There's also a gun show comin up this weekend and I want to check if I could get a good buy there.

My money is set for a SA 45 LC but I guess I'll get the GP161 if he hadn't make a deal yet and if I won't be able to get one at the show.

But I guess I'll be leaning more on the 357/38 since I have the dies to make the ammo and I got hundreds of brass (picked up from gun range) cleaned already.

The guy changed his mind. Guess who convinced him...his wife.

I was at the gun show last Saturday and I was 2 revos which I was ready to buy. The first one was a Uberti Cattleman, very nice finish, even the price was right...$250.00

But when I checked it there was a lot of play in the cylinder. Even a green horn like me could tell that.

I move on and saw a Ruger security six. Stainless finish and with minimal scratches. $265 was the asking price and a quick computation told me that I had enough money to buy it. Timing was perfect, not much play with the cylinder. I asked the gentleman if I could press the pin to check the firing pin and he agreed. There's not much coming out of the hole. Only half the thickness of a dime. I have no idea if that is an expensive repair or just minimal but I have to pass it up.

I went home empty handed but my son was able to buy his SKS ammo and helmet. BAck to my search.
