Well today I was bored so I stopped by the local shops (Fowler-Stockade). They're notorious for high prices but they have a big selection. So I figured what the heck, it never hurts to look around.

What caught my eye wasn't the NRM Colt Government, but the price tag for it.

Get ready... $795! :what:

Jus' be happy for how good you outside of Cali residents got it.

You sure it wasn't a good price on a Series 70?

That price is crazy for a new-rollmark Colt. Couldn't you get one online and use an FFL, even in Ahnold-land?

That one's been sitting there for a couple of months now. You'd think that Fowlers would figger out that no one's stupid enough to pay that price and adjust it downwards a bit.

I beg to differ. Inevitably, someone, sometime, will be dumb enough to buy it at that price, so the shop will justify charging that price.

If they weren't retarded, simple economics could teach them that selling several guns at a lower price will bring more profit than one gun at an outrageous price.

Many gunshop owners seem to be oblivious to this concept.

Black Talon,

Actually you'd be surprised how much people will pay for a gun they like.

I overheard the guys at fowler's selling a Kobra Carry for $2995!

Retail price for the California approved version ( ) is $2495.

Some people will spend the extra bucks. Even paying an extra $500. :what:

i saw one of the nrm colts at a local dealer. this is the only one i have seen in my area. about 6 months ago he was asking $899.
i stopped by there yesterday, and he still has it . . .
i am in the habit of buying colts on sight, but not even i will pay that much. :neener:

Hmmm. . . I sure am glad I got mine from WildAlaska with the group buy. :) Thing is, I don't see too many Colts in the shops I go to, so I would imagine that the shopowner figures someone who was desperate for it might actually pay that much for it.

Yea, it's called price gouging. There were a couple places around here that tried that and couldn't sell them until the dropped the price. After it sold the store said they don't sell colts anymore because the wouldn't sell. LOL. Uh, yea, maybe because they were over priced.

Now, I see series 80's selling for $619 after the market auto corrected itself. When the shops see that the can't get them in because of oh...say production shortages due to say....lockouts....they jack the price up.

It'll come down eventually if they want to sell them or get an idiot to take it for a premium.

I am so glad I didn't get rid of my NRM Gov't. Even had an ad out for it unfired for $500, lots of inquiries. But the next day I took it to the range on a whim, came back cancelled the ad. I can't even remember why I was going to sell it. I must've been temporarily insane
