Pricing a Ruger Security Six?

I'm going to sell one of my Ruger Security Sixes, but I'm having trouble finding an equivalent one for sale so that I can set a fair price.

I have a 150 prefix Ruger Security Six made in 1976 with a 2 and 3/4 inch barrel. The gun is blued. Backstrap bluing is worn, and there is a cylinder line. Gun is in 357 mag (as are most of them).

I see a lot of 4inch models going for sale, and 151 or later models going for sale, and a lot of stainless guns going for sale, but not a lot of the snubby guns.

I want to be fair and actually have the gun sell, but I also don't want to lose my hat either. What say you all for a range / guess at a fair price?

I still have other sixes in the stable, but this one just collects dust and I'd rather fund other toys.

Hi,
With the way your describing your Security Six I would say in the neighborhood of $400. In California they will go for $450 and up depending on condition.
To me that would be a good starting point.

Roaddog is close. I have a 4" listed for a friend for $425 but it won't bring it. $350 maybe. Your snubby should bring $50 to $75 more than a 4" in like condition.

Locally you'd be able to sell it in about two minutes at $400. Local markets are all different but I think you could do a quick sale on it for $450. The short ones are becoming something of a legend for CCW. Skeeter Skelton disliked the original grip frame, but not everyone agrees with him.

I've got a 2-3/4" Security Six in the 159- range. Real good shooter, solid as a vault. You wouldn't get it away from me for that. If I needed to sell a few guns, this would be on the keep list. If I put it on the market I'd ask $100 more. Might not get it, but the right buyer would be willing to get close to that.

I agree with the......

........$400 dollar range. Over the past few years I was on a 2 3/4 search of Security/Speed sixes. The snub versions are sought after and command a higher tag. Now my wife has a stainless Security, my stepson has a blued Speed and I have a stainless Speed with the bull barrel. Took a lot of searching for these in reasonable prices.

Bought 2-3/4" Stainless Sec. Six for $375 this summer. Locale was south of Rochester, NY. Very nice condition but had signs of being carried. 153-series.

The owner had had it on armslist for some time and finally turned it over to an ffl friend for consignment sale. $400 may be a little high for WNY.

Honestly, I have a few Security Sixes and NEVER carry it or shoot it. Hasn't left the safe in 3 years. I always grab my 4 inch SS for carry or range shooting. What I don't have is a Browning Hi-Power. The amount of Auto-pistols I have is actually fairly limited. I wouldn't mind adding another all steel auto to the stable.

Most of my revolver shooting also honestly goes to my official police or my model 10, and the 357s actually get very little shooting in general. I'm not at a point financially where I can just add to the stable without moving out some older things, and sadly this is my least used piece I am comfortable parting with.

Just got done reading the images and it was like going back in time.
One of my favorite parts is the MSRP of $89 for fixed sights and $97.50 for adjustable.

I wonder what the MSRP would be these days on such a well machined weapon $600 to $700?

I'm only making twice the wage my dad did at that time, but the revolvers are 6-7 times more expensive. If that were still the "revolver to wage" ratio today my quiver would be full.

Few years ago I picked up 2&3/4" HB in box (black/yellow type if I recall correctly) for $379. It was at place called Dance's on their special 20% day sale.
