I bought a pound of Hodgens CFE 223 powder to try out. The Hodgen/IMR/Winchester load data site lists loads for this powder but doesn't list what primer to use. I'm starting with 27.0grs of CFE 223 powder, Rem cases, and a 50gr Nosler Sptz bullet. I don't know if I should use a mag or standard primer. Anyone know what type of primer I should use? I have CCI SR Mag primers, Fed SR match primers, and Win SR primers. Thanks.

If you plan to work up a load from a start/mid range starting point, you will be fine with the CCI SRM or the Win SR. Igniting ball powder becomes an issue in cold weather and worse with a lot of air space in the case which you shouldn't have. Someone will probably chime in to use Mil-spec primers, but I never have. CFE is so new, just don't fully know if it is finicky like BLC-2 or W748. I'm loading mine with CCI SRM. With 102 degrees today, I definitely don't anticipate hangfires.

If you hit the "Print" button and cancel the print job the page that's left up will tell you which primer they are using and the barrel length.

Don't bother though because all the current load data uses either a standard or magnum primer for all the data in a caliber no matter which powder is being used. They are too lazy to give you the best choice.

Actually it does tell you.

If you fill in the blanks at the top of the data page with bullet weight and powder type, then hit print.

It says:
Case: Winchester
Barrel Length: 24"
Twist: 1:12"
Trim Length: 1.750"
Primer: Winchester SR
