Primer pocket -shot or not- redux

The specification for Large Rifle Primer Pocket is Minimum 0.2085 and Maximum is 0.2100 and primers come in at 0.2105 to 0.2130. So with that in mind I would see what you have for primer dimensions (width) and try seating a few. That is where I know right away, just the feel of seating.

What brand pin gauge? Just curious. Mine are midrange ones, I couldn't justify the cost of Starret etc.

Vermont Gage. Got them on amazon.

Not starret, or the high dollar pin gages we use at work, but good enough to do what we need them for

I did the plastidip on the proximal end and know enough about metrology not to touch the distal end

While we are on this subject, I recently came across an issue in the other direction. Thrice fired PPU 6.5x55 brass with incredibly tight pockets. Very difficult to seat primers. In the end, ran them through my CH4D pocket swager. As I do not recall ever having this issue before nor do I recall reading of or hearing of the phenomenon, I wondered if anyone had an explanation and whether it is an issue of concern. The brass was cleaned, tumbled, and the primer pockets cleaned out, so it was dirt or residue.

Perhaps you need a Dillon pin gauge measurement gauge, to determine the gauge of your gauge?:D

Please, Let us know when you get a chance to measure outside dimensions base and ring. Thanks.

Average of 10 each

Lapua Undired

Rim - 0.468"
Web - 0.403"
Base- 0.467

Lapua Fired 8 times w/loose pocket

Rim - 0.469"
Web - 0.406"
Base - 0.470"

Looks like the case grew in diameter at the bottom and in the web area ~0.003"

Yep!
I don't think I would be able to use my die but that is the answer right there.
The how-to fix it for that dimension might be the easy part but I would
cut one case to see how the wall/web situation is.
If you have been neck sizing it might be ok in case you want to try swagging those 3 thousands back in place.

Thanks for sharing.

I'll cut one open for education, but I think the answer for me is if the pin gage can enter the pocket the case is done

Either back off on pressure, or resign yourself to loosing cases after 8ish firings due to web expansion/primer pocket looseness.

What I need to do is find a good practice load for 100 yards. I don't need to be banging away at short range pushing 180g SMKs with 1,000 loads
