I am a new reloader and have a question about primers. I try to follow the manual explicitly, but am wondering if I can't make this substitution.
I will be going to pick up some reloading items in the next town next week and am wondering what the effect of substituting Federal 150 primers for CCI 300s.
I used the CCIs for 10mm and am in the process of starting to reload for .45 ACP. The Sierra manual calls for Federal 150s for .45. Would using the CCIs change the results much from those printed in the Sierra manual? Since I am using a Sig and they were using a Freedom Arms, I won't be getting identical velocity/pressure anyway- (don't have a chronograph yet).
And since the pressures for .45 cal are much lower than 10mm, (according to an old Hodgdon manual I have) would it matter if the max .45 load was a little hotter than the Sierra numbers if the primer change does anything?
My guess is that it won't be a factor, and I could standardize my primers for these two calibers. The CCIs worked fine in the 10mm loads I worked up last Saturday
