How important is primer selection when I comes to reloading data. That is, I have 2000 Winchester large pistol primers. My manual has info using CCI and Federal. Is it ok to substitute WLP primers for CCI or Federal. This specific question is for 45acp but I also am going to load 40SW and 38/357. Is it safe to use the same, correct size (ie small pistol/or magnum)primer regardless of brand.

Thanks in advance

As long as you don't start at the max load you will be fine. Variables like that are one reason we always start low and work up. I shoot WLP primers all the time. Only because they come in smaller boxes than federal. Dumb reason, I know. You will never see a difference on target up close.

I use CCI, only because the shop didn't carry WW and my Lee equipment said CCI or Winchester only.

As you said, never use a magnum primer unless specified, and do not interchange small and large primers.

I believe lee recomends either cci or winchester and not federal as federal primers and lee primer installers is a bad combination. Check the new lee manual under primers it will say.
