do small pistol primers indicate if they are magnum, or is it indicated on the #
i have a box of remington no. 5-1/2 small pistol primers that i had bought and was told they were for 357 magnum, just want to make sure, no where on the package do they indicate magnum
thanks

Most .357 Magnum loads do not need mag primers, but some do. Your load book will give you an idea, although some just list mag primers with all loads. Speer # 13 & 14 only suggest using mag primers in .357 with HS-6, HS-7, H-110, W-296, & Lil' Gun. (hard to ignite and or very slow ball powders)

Your Remington 5 1/2 primers are mag primers, and will work just fine for your purposes.

I've heard the Remington 5-1/2 primers are no different than the 1-1/2 style except for the thickness of the primer cup. Equal bangage for both, in other words. But I've only heard this...

I wonder how they would do with full-house loads of H110 in the .357 magnum if there's no difference in ignition capability...???

I fully agree that Remington should do something to make their packaging of primers more understandable!

well here is another question
chcking my lee manual
158 grain led bullet
starting grains 6.2 of unique
small pistol primers (does not indicate a primer # am i safe with the 5-1/2 primers listed above
looked in my lyman manual it did not have a load for 158 grain led nullet but as you said all of their loads used cc1 500 (not a magnum)
thanks i am new to this and want to double check myself

Unique does not need a mag primer, but will work fine with it. I would just stop .1 or .2 short of max since they used standard primers.

Powder....Sorry. Crimp into the crimp groove. That will give you your O.A.L. for that bullet. That will vary some depending on how long you trim your brass, if you trim it.
