Hello all,
I’m pretty new to hand loading so bear with me.
I’ve loaded 45 Colt, .357 Mag, and now I’m moving to 460 s&w Mag. I’ve done well so far and I was thinking I had the 460 down until I came across something that said all brass might not be able to handle the LRM primers. I bought star line for the 460 and I have a couple of boxes of fired Hornady. Can the Hornady brass handle the LRM primers? I’ve loaded 15 so far with Barnes xpb 250 gr. bullets before I seen this. The load looks good, just want to make sure.

I'm not sure what you read but I think some 460 Magnum brass uses a small primer cup instead of a large cup. Maybe that is what they were talking about. A LRP and a LRMP are the same exact size so I doubt it's what you think. Of course I could be wrong but in this case I don't think so.

Edit: Actually, I can't find any small primer 460 Brass anywhere in the net so I'm probably incorrect about that. I still have never heard of not being able to use a magnum primer because of the brass itself.

Is there a link to what you read or was it in a magazine?

My mistake. I should have said. I’m using large rifle magnum primers (WLRM) per the Lyman manual. Hornady load data uses (WLR). So I guess the best question I could ask is. Can the Hornady brass handle the WLRM primer safely? The one I have loaded looks perfect, fit wise.

Thanks ArchAngelCD! I didn’t think it would matter either. Just want to double check with more experienced loaders to be sure.

Yes, that makes more sense. LRP and LPP are not the same hight. Amazingly enough SPP and SRP are the same hight.

I'm glad you cleared this up for yourself. Carry on, no fears.
