We recently obtained a County Range Registration. If things build up in our area our range is now protected by County Certification.
For us that means no matter what builds up around us we're protected. Unless there are proven and cited violations of safety laws, no developer can have our certification reversed. Or at least that's how it works in our County.
We built the first ShootShed at the 100 yard mark so that we can shoot all winter long. We'll be building two more in the spring, one at the 300 yard mark and one at the 500 yard mark. That's as far as we can do without cutting a lot of trees down.
Anyone else have a private range?

I like that, my own range here at home is max 180yds. I dug another pond so I have a dirt hill behind my target. If I moved some dirt I might could get 220yds. If I climbed a tree/ladder I could shoot around 360yds but I'd be shooting over the dirt road in front of my house. This is like that frog, if he had wings he could fly.

Essay,

That is exceptional. Can I ask how big that association is? you apparently have some excellent funding.

From my experience it doesn't always work that way, look up Blue Trails in CT. If your area gets built up they will sue you just to try to drive you bankrupt. $30k-$50k+ in legal fee's might be cheap if it gets a project going.

I would recommend taking the approach the gun club I'm a member of has taken, they just buy up the surrounding land as it becomes available. The best way to avoid problems with neighbors is not to have them.

I bought my own property in the middle of nowhere so I could shoot in privacy. Owning property to shoot or to have the biggest buffer possible is the only way to go.

The Kitsap revolver and rifle club on the Washington coast is under attack from the local socialist county attorney. The range had a bullet leave the backstop in 1995 according to the court filing.

The problem is made considerably worse by the clubs choice of "range officers". They are IDPA nazis, they carry loaded sidearms and spend most of their time screaming and yelling at members and especially guests.( I went there for a pistol match and five minutes after it ended they had their hands on their pistols and were screaming at the top of their lungs for non-members to leave or they would arrest them for tresspassing)

Apparently, they pulled the same stunt on the building inspector and the county atty when he came to investigate the treatment of the building inspector.
