I'm on the e-mail update list for news on the new shooting park being built in Las Vegas. Here's a link to and a copy/paste of the latest update.

Things are Getting Exciting!
After MANY months of keeping you posted on design, I’ve decided to give up talking about planning, design, permits, and so on. I decided to begin talking about construction and operations….wait did you hear that right?

I said “CONSTRUCTION and OPERATIONS”

YES...WE ARE UNDER CONSTRUCTION OF OUR PUBLIC MODULE!!!

Attached are some photos of the water service system that is currently under construction. This is a $4.2 million stage that will supply water from two city of North Las Vegas water tanks (near the southeast corner of the property) to an on site reservoir. The project also includes three massive pumps and a back up generator.

Funds for our Public Module stage are from a grant from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, which directs 70 percent of Bureau of Land Management sales to be granted for parks, trails, and natural areas in southern Nevada. We went through the competitive process and were awarded three grants over a three-year span that allowed us to plan, design, permit, and construct this stage.

We are on a Roll...
When the water service line is near completion and the heavy equipment is out of the way, construction will move to the internal roadways, water lines, utility corridors, building pads, ranges and finally buildings. Best estimate projections for operating will be in early 2009.

While all this is going on, shooting park staff will be purchasing equipment and supplies to set up the buildings and ranges. We will also be hiring and training staff within two months of opening.

Speaking of staff
We trained 45 volunteers for our “trade show program. This booth will be “on the road” in the Vegas community to let everyone know that we will be open for business soon.

Another piece of great news, we were recently awarded a $250,000 grant from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority to design our Tourist Center and Ranges. This will be a great addition to our Public Module and will allow us to implement our services for out of town visitors who want to participate in a destination shooting experience.

Since construction began, we have been hearing from some local homeowners. Several are not happy about a shooting range being built in their neighborhood. As the shooting park was designed with environmental management and quality neighborhood relations in mind, we are hoping that they will be assured that the operation of the shooting park will not adversely affect their quality of life. County and park management are both committed to be a good neighbor to our local community. The same community also contains several homeowners that are excited about the shooting park. They have been expressing support for the project.

We will continue to keep you posted on our progress, both with the construction and operation phases as well as our relationships with our neighbors.

Stay safe, and if you are not part of the Sun Belt this winter keep warm! As always keep your powder dry, and begin reloading so you’ll have some ammo when you visit us next year.

Best wishes,

Don Turner, Manager
Clark County Shooting Park

Thanks for the update and all your work.

Many are looking forward it.

I just found that if you look at Las Vegas in Google Earth, you can find the site of the new range.

Just follow North Decatur Blvd. all the way to the north until it turns to Moccasin Rd. You should see a place marker there.
