I've been wanting to shoot a Pro Am format match ever since I first heard about it. There was one scheduled in Virginia this year but it was eventually cancelled. We found out about one 5.5 hours south in North Carolina and took the trip down. It was awesome. This might be my favorite match format. For those that don't know, it's an all knockdown steel match with par times on every stage. Your score is the number of plates you manage to knock down before you run out of time. There is one timed stage that appears last in this video which is used as a tie breaker.

I love Pro Am... I hope they can get the major championship match back on track.

Fortunately the new owners are at my home club, so I get to shoot two to three awesome pro am club matches per year now too.

I was just about to come to this match until they reformatted it to a club type.

The new owners are great people, good match directors; they just aren't very internet savy and what has happened since they bought it is unfortunately not too surprising.

Even though the drive sucks much more for me, they need to move it back to FL or to another major venue... I don't think they can attract top level talent to a smaller IDPA range in BFE NC.

There are new owners? I thought it was the same people that have been there forever running the Carolina cup, etc.

Strader sold it to a couple guys that are local to me in northwest SC. One of them is very tight with Frank who owns "The Range" and does the Carolina Cup. The other owns the local USPSA club here.

They kept it at FL for the first two years, and always planned to move it somewhere closer to this area. I just don't think that is a good idea, and I always thought it would be trouble when they no longer had a big name like Phil at the top promoting it.

Sevigny's outlaw match in ATL the last couple years was very well done. I didn't like all his tweaks but most were good. Not sure why that match didn't happen this year, but if it happens again, I would say it is worth traveling for if you like the Pro Am match format. They also have a pretty good size prize table like the regular Pro Am did when Strader owned it.

ok, I did know that Pro Am had changed hands, I didn't realize it sold to someone in the NC area. I thought you meant that "The Range" had new owners. The format is awesome. I wish I could do more of them.
