I was doing some channel surfing and caught the newest Trace Adkins video for his song "Rough & Ready" on CMT. Anyway, at the end of the video, he's driving his pickup with a well-stocked gun rack and gives a lift to some hapless yuppy.

Yuppy (sounding like a whiney turd): "Is that a real gun?"

TA: "Yeah, it's a real gun."

Yuppy (even more whiney): "Do you have a permit for it?"

TA (annoyed): "No, I don't have a permit for it. Do you have a permit to ask stupid questions like that?"

:D

Just what we need too, everyday folks thinking gun owners are a bunch of rednecks driving around with guns illegally.

why is it illegal to have a gun in a gun rack in your pickup?

have not seen it, but I presume they are long guns.

it is certainly legal here in Texas and probably most states near it.

What I don't like

I've seen the video, and like it, especially the exchange at the end.

The only problem is, it perpetuates the idea that you actually need a permit of some kind to have a gun!

Trace is a pretty cool guy. Can you believe he was actually shot by an ex-wife, and still promotes guns in his videos?

It is legal in Kansas,,,,,, but,,,,,, here in my county, Geary (including Junction City, and Fort Riley) our city council passed an ordinance against it. They claim it is an invitation to theft, and I can be charged with a misdemeanor for doing it.

You remember???? do not let a good boy go bad, remove your keys from your car, etc?

If you wanted to steal a long gun, would you break a window out of a pickup in Walmarts parking lot? I do not think you would dare to follow it home, and try to steal it in the driveway in front of his house, would you?

I think the point of the line is that you DON'T NEED a permit to own a gun in America and that asking if you have a permit is a stupid question ... like asking if you have a permit for a guitar or your shoes.

I absolutely love that song. I think it's great. Now if only I had cable or any TV other than staticy news I'd watch CMT(all the time probably why I don't have cable yet).

It's true you don't need to have a permit to own a gun. I think it kinda goes with the theme of the song. "Rough and Ready" He is a rough redneck and he's ready for anything.

If you're hard up for your addictive drug of choice, you may very well take any opportunity you can. A nice scoped rifle or pump shotgun will be worth a good bit of smack. Doesn't take but 5 seconds to hop in the bed, shatter the glass, turn the long arm sideways to slide it between the rack bars, and run to your own car of hideaway.

That's how I took it!

Using the right word is everything

Just saw it. Other then giving the city slickers more sterotyping of rednecks I liked it. He could of used some of my relatives as extras in it.

What he should of said is

"No, I don't need a permit for it. Do you have a permit to ask stupid questions like that?"

I sold my '91 Nissan Pickup to a Mexican feller who said he was going to take it back to Mexico. He asked me if I wanted to keep the gun rack, because it was illegal in Mexico to have a gun rack in a pickup truck.

Love that new video and been a big fan of Trace Adkins for a long time.If you watch the video you will notice that the Yuppy guy has Calif. plates and Trace's pickup has Ark plates.Hence the permit question and proper response.Good song and fun video...

I agree.

Hi Everyone, newbie here.Actually,i think John Michael Montgomery sings That song, not Trace Adkins.I could be wrong though.
You are. The only thing I've heard from JMM in the past few years is "Letters from home."

re: Trace, et al

Ever since 9/11 I've noticed a tremendous swing on the part of C&W
artists toward patriotic themes in their work. Toby Keith being one of
the most ardent.

"And we could see clearly through our big black eye...then we lit up your world like the 4th of July"

I also hear through the Nashville grapevine that his tour for our troops
in the war zones was at his request, and on his dime.

Ckeck him out...
