I hope they replay it...who's the newscaster?

I don't usually watch the cable news networks so I don't know who the newscaster was. Jon Stossle was a guest.

It was a little twilight zone to see:

Instead of the usual "gun owners are crazy to think more guns are the answer." it was more "gun control is not crime control" and "the tragedy in Illinois could have been averted by a CCW"

I'm finding that people are beginning to come out of the cave.

While many of the higher ups- campus admins., police and journalist- are still against, more of the commoners are starting to catch the "what if" and "personal responsibility" bug when it comes to CHL and gun ownership.

On Facebook, I have noticed more and more students addressing other aspects of the crime issues. Rather than emotional claims that guns kill people and need to be banned, many are looking at personal responsibility in recognizing issues in individuals before a tragedy occurs, others are at least receptive to liberalizing gun laws and allowing greater choice in CCW and still others are really coming to the pro-gun side. There are still a few hard core ones out there that argue vehemently against more guns, but the voices are becoming weaker as logic sinks in.

Yeah, looks about usual.

No matter how personally affected you are, your emotion-driven opinions are still opinions, no matter how strongly you feel about them.

I had to shake my head as the anti spouted off his cures for preventing violence/shootings in schools. "bring god into schools" etc is his answer to the problem . Guess he forgot about the recent church shooting .

It also shows HIS immaturity and lack of control that he thinks the academic world is any more stressful than the everyday work world .

I was waiting for the anti to produce some "facts" , but I guess I'll be waiting for a long time .

That producer probably won't have a job tomorrow.
the local paper here once ran an article that while it was not positive oward gun owners, was not especially negative either (which is a huge surprise considering the source).

a few days later they ran an editorial all but disowning the story.

In my book the Students for Concealed Carry rep. in this clip gets an A+. His points were articulate and well reasoned, and, most importantly, his rebuttals were the same.

As far as the topic goes, Glenn Beck has been talking about the 2nd amendment for awhile now. Its nice to have one of the major, conservative talk show hosts at least mention it, i listen to quite a bit of talk radio and i cant think of a single other host that i have heard even bring the topic up.

Ahh, makes more sense now. He's CNN's token "conservative" to keep them "balanced and fair".

I find it knee-slapping funny that CNN's "token conservative" has some of the highest ratings on their network. Last I heard it was the only show on CNN that was gaining viewer numbers instead of losing.

Well I certainly felt for the VT victim in that conversation - he just didn't make any sense - basically stating that he's afraid that a stressed out prof with a ccw is going to go postal on his own students - again, how do you reason with unreasonable logic? I thought the other guy did a very good job of explaining his point - clear, concise - he didn't come off like a gun nut who wants full automatics under glass next to the fire extinguisher - overall I thought it was a pretty good segment.

I caught the piece too and there were a couple of very interesting points. One was when John Stossel started talking about the time he got all the presidential candidates to talk about gun issues and the only one to show up was Al Sharpton. Stossel asked the good rev. what life would be like if it were legal for most adults to carry guns with them. Of course Al said it would be madness and people would be getting shot everywhere. Stossel then admitted that it was one of the hardest things for him to realize going from being a liberal to a more libertarian bent that it IS the way life is and no it doesn't happen

The other thing that cracked me up was the fact that while Glenn certainly supports the 2A he sure doesn't seem to know much about it or gun laws. When he brought up DC v. Heller he says "and you won't BELIEVE what the presidential candidates responses are." He says and I paraphrase....both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have come out saying they are NO LONGER for a plan to license new firearm owners and register firearms. Apparently Glenn took this to mean that we currently have to license and register guns and they are saying they want to cut that off so we can't have any new guns. :banghead:

Well to be fair it's not exactly his mission, the Second Amendment.

He's also a convicted felon and not allowed to own firearms so he has less interest in them than some.

He gets the general concept and that's leaps and bounds ahead of most people in the media.

Go to the CNN Video page. It is currently under Top Stories. Title of the clip is "2nd Amendment in jeopardy?"

I'm surprised Glenn Beck's piece made the air.

I'm glad the interviewee went a step further to say, "Gun control laws increase the number of violent crimes." (paraphrase)

The only way I know will require a bit of work. Do you use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, or something else? The only way I know how to do this is with Mozilla Firefox, which is free so it couldn't hurt to install it and at least try it out (It's like IE but much better). If you don't have Firefox, here's a link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

What you want to do is download this download helper (it only works with Firefox unfortunately): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006

It might ask you to restart Firefox, or take you to a new page saying it successfully installed or something like that. Basically it will add this rotating icon at the far right side of the URL bar. It is 3 rotating circles (red, blue, yellow). What you want to do is load the video up on CNN, then click on the arrow to the right of this rotating icon. You will see a drop box drop down, and you will want to click on the middle icon that is gb .liberty.in.peril.gun.ban.cnn_576x324_dl.flv Then it will ask you where to save. Just choose a place and your download will start. Here's a pic to illustrate what I'm talking about: tn_pic.png

Make sure you click the one I have highlighted. The one with the same file name above it, but the different icon won't work for me so I'm not sure what that one is.

This method works for most videos like this on most websites like Youtube, Google Video, etc. Also, just fyi, these files (including this particular one) are typically .flv files so you will most likely need to download a separate player for them unfortunately (lots of hoops to jump through this process isn't there!). Here's one I use and it works well: Link

Please let me know if you have any questions. :)
