I have the 4-hole Lee Delux Turret Press Kit. While trying to use the sizer/deprimer die on a .30-06 (I haven't tried other calibers yet), I can only get the brass to go up partially. There is still about 1/4inch between the shellholder and the die. The die I am using is a Lee and is part of a Pacesette Die kit. I cannot get the brass to go up without using an inordinate amount of force that would require me to use all my body weight and break the sturdy table that I have the press mounted to in the process. However, I need to go up the enire way so that the spent primer can be removed. Does anyone know what is wrong and how I might fix it? Thanks.
 
Using any case lube at all?

You can't resize any rifle caliber brass without it.

Also, make sure you don't have Berdan primed brass with two off-center flash holes.

The dies are new. I haven't cleaned the dies. I didn't know you were supposed to clean them. I don't even know how to clean the dies. The brass is once fired. It is the brass from the $16 Walmart Winchester ammo. I do not know if it is crimped or not. There are no obstructions in the brass. I cleaned and polished the brass. I also lubed the cases. I tried the die on one round of brass, but it got stuck and I had to use vice grips, vices, etc. to get it out. The second piece of brass is giving me the same trouble, but I am not about to put all my body into making it go up further because I do not want another stuck case. Thanks.
 
Lube Question?

1. What are you using for case lube?

2. Double check the size die to shell holder set-up.

3. Make sure the de-capping pin is not bottoming out on the bottom of the brass.

Lees can be kind of funny with large caliber brass..

Full Length die adjustment

When using our full length sizing dies for rifle cartridges, the die should be turned in to touch the shell holder and then enough more that there is no daylight between the top of the shell holder and the bottom of the die during the sizing process. This is the preferred method because the act of sizing sometimes results in flex that prevents the shell holder from touching the bottom of the die.

Lee dies are designed so that the shoulder of the case is not sized until the very top of the die has been reached. This is done for two reasons; first, we don't want the die to overwork your brass and second and more importantly, we do not want to invite headspace problems. Pushing the shoulder back too soon can create a situation that can eventually cause case separation and a dangerous situation.

If you note that your Lee Die don't appear to push the shoulder of your case back, ensure that you are adjusting the die so that there is no daylight between the top of the shell holder and the bottom of the die during the sizing process. If you see daylight at the top of the stroke, readjust the die downward and repeat sizing until it disappears. If your case is still difficult to chamber, you can send the die back to us with a sized case and we can modify the die to minimum SAAMI specifications.
