Has anyone had this problem, or heard of it? I have a fairly new 870 express, it came with the 18" barrel w/ bead sight and mag extension. I replaced the barrel with the 20" smoothbore barrel with rifle sights. I purchased a whole bunch of Brenneke KO 2 3/4" slugs, and it shoots them great, very accurate. However, after I fire a round, its very hard to extract the spent casing, like its stuck or something. I've never fired another shotgun that has done this with any type of ammo, its always been very easy to cycle all other pump actions I've shot. I want to try some other ammo (haven't done that yet) to see if its just a problem with the Brenneke's, but does anyone have an idea on this? Thanks!

It seems to happen from time to time with certain guns and certain brands of shells. For example, Fiocchis tie up one of my 870s that way, and recently they did the same thing to a new Mossberg 930.

Try cleaning your chamber thoroughly with a new bore brush. Sometimes it's just a residue buildup in the chamber. If cleaning doesn't fix it, sometimes the chamber needs polishing. Often enough, a change in ammo brands will fix it.

Thank you Mr. Leaky Waders!

That was a good link you posted (I didn't do a search because I didn't even know what exactly to search for). I'm going to try the steel wool/drill approach. I also thought of gooping up one of those fuzzy/woolly looking shotgun barrel buffers with valve lapping compound and giving the chamber a spin with that. I'll be careful not to open her up to 10 gauge. Thank you for the help!

I fired a variety of ammo today through all the guns and they did fine.

Box of brenneke black bear magnums did well. But were totally dominated by the Super X mag 3 inchers. But the bulk were the cheapo Winlite low recoils and pumped those out by the dozen today.

I thought about that KO ammo, but bought SFM's instead from Brenneke.

The moss will probably keep right on eating the Rem Buckhammer managed recoils as it does well in that gun.

No hangups so far but a one hell of a cleaning job awaits me tomorrow.

Yo Seagul! How does your post answer any of the OP's questions? You don't list what gun you're using, and if it is a Mossberg, then how does that apply to his Remington? You list several different shot shell rounds, including the one the OP is shooting/having difficulty extracting. Again, so they function through your Mossy. So what!

Weedy, 'Lee Lapin's' post is the most likely.

I own a Remington 870 Marine Magnum 12 Gauge. Those Brennekes go through that gun.

That should clear it up.

Apologies for forgetting to insert that bit of revelant information.

Now for the record, I have a supply of Brenneke Short Taticals in both 870 and Moss sitting in the ammo box as I write this. They do a good job with thier ammunition.
