I took my new Buckmark out today for the first time and am wondering if I bought a POS. When I load the magazine the cartridges won't stay in and come flying out. I had some old Wildcat 22 cartridges that worked ok but when I used new ammo I bought yesterday from Scheels, it doesn't work. These cartridges were a little shorter than the Wildcats. It is almost like the spring is way too strong. I tried squeezing the end of the magazine thinking that might help but to no avail. If you have just a few rounds, they will stay in, but full, no way. Any ideas? :(

Is the box of rounds labelled '22 Long Rifle'? If not - try a box of 22 Long Rifle (22LR).

Thanks for the input. The box of ammo says 22 LONG (copper plated round nose). Another notation says 22 L CRN 29 grains. Beats the sh*t out of me  One of the things I am learning on this sight is that guns are temperamental and maybe all ammo isnt compatible? I'm still learning!

22 Long and 22 Long Rifle are not the same cartridge. The 22 Longs are shorter than the 22 Long Rifles and they will not stay in the magazine. As rbernie suggested - get a box of 22 Long Rifle (22LR) cartridges and that should do the trick.

Good outside the box diagnosis, rbernie. I'd have never thought of that, but then they don't call me stupid for nothing.

I figure if I hang around this website long enough, maybe I'll become an expert. I learn something everytime I log in and it is a lot of fun. :D Beats the hell out of rotting in front of the TV. I have been telling all my friends about this site and hope they check it out. I was aware of 22 Long and 22 Short, but had no clue 22 Long and 22 Long Rifle were 2 different things. I used Google and found a page that had all the specs on all the 22 calibers.

There are 4 kinds of .22 cartridges and the specific cartridge must be used in the gun it was designed for. Some tube fed rifles will shoot 3 of the types but your pistol must have the correct size. The sizes are .22 Short, .22 Long, .22 Long Rifle and .22 Magnum.

I wouldn't be surprised if you run into another problem when you retry with the proper ammo. You may well have to buy another magazine if you 'squeezed the end' of yours too much and deformed it.

Chalk it up to experience. FWIW if you start having a chronic functional problem with a .22 RF semiauto, first clean it thoroughly, inspecting closely for obviously broken or damaged parts, and relube it sparingly. If that doesn't do it, try another brand of ammo. Then a different magazine. "Adjusting" parts should be a last resort, and only attempted after exhausting all other options.
