Took a brand new Ruger SR22 to the range today with several types of ammo: Federal Automatch, CCI Stinger, Federal Lightning.

Regardless of the ammo the trigger would fail to reset after several rounds. Could not fire a whole mag without this happening. Only way to get the gun to shoot again was to drop the mag and insert it agin... Operated the decocker several times, nothing changed.

Only had one of the 2 mags the pistol comes with so can't say if this is a mag problem or something more serious. Any ideas?

Never had a trigger problem with the SR22 as long as I have had it. So this might be a trip back to Ruger fix.

You know anyone else that has an sr22? I would definitely test with another mag before sending it back. Especially since reseating the mag fixes the issue temporarily.

This is a new one to me, never had nor heard of this problem.

I know its not a huge help, but, send it back to Ruger.

Had a problem with my SR22 the last time I took her out as well. Mag seating, failure to fire , failure to extract, failure to chamber, the full gamete. And a rear sight coming loose and almost falling off as well.

Sent her back to Ruger with a note explaining what did or didn't happen. Got her back in about 10 days as a freshly cleaned and oiled gun with a tight rear sight. Called Ruger and they said the ran a hundred rounds of CCI Mini Mag 40 grn. through her without a problem.

I've come to the conclusion that the other types of .22lr ammo I have will not work in the SR22. I now own an ammo particular weapon and the only thing she will eat is the CCI Mini Mag copper plated 40 grn. I'll find out for sure next week some time when I can get to the range.

Sounds like you're having a magazine disconnect issue. You may have to send the gun back to Ruger so that they can replace the disconnect.

^Agree, sounds like a mag disconnect problem. If you remove the mag does the trigger act the same as when your problem occurs?

On another note....I would have never bought an SR if it needed mini mags. Mine has eaten everything I've tried so far. Well except those few times I tried to feed it 22 longs. Even with longs it'll function 70% of the time.

I agree wholeheartedly. Everything I read said there was no problem with feeding issues using various and varied types of ammo. Shoulda went with the M&P 22 instead.

I have used five different brands of ammo in my SR22 and have not had any problems with any of the brands.

You do not need mini mags with the sr22.
It hasn't been my experience that the SR only runs with Mini Mags.

However, mine doesn't run Remington Golden well, or WWB. The Winny has a longer OAL than CCI, and wouldn't be a reliable choice.

Remington Viper, while dirty, runs quite well.

My sr22 has run Winchester, cci, federal, Remington, and handfuls of assorted garbage without incident. If you are not getting that level of performance out of your sr22, you are missing out on its potential performance. You deserve better.

Mine has run fine with 5 types of cheap ammo (Blazer, Thunderbolts, Peters, Golden Bullets, Winchester).

I will make a statement here and I will say ahead of time.... Not Accusing you of this, but one must eliminate the possibility!

Limp wristing the pistol! ..... :uhoh: and a rimfire semiauto can be less forgiving!

Here is the reason I say this .... My SR22 has eaten everything from day one without fail.... EXCEPT in my daughter in laws hands!

After fussing with the same exact issue at the range with her, a range officer stepped in and said "Do you mind if I do something" I said of course not..

He loaded a mag with federal Bulk from Wally world.... Fired the gun ten rounds.

I had stepped back and He motioned for my daughter in law to step up.. reloaded the SR22 magazine and began talking to her, showing her a different grip and a few more pointers. It never happened again... she shot the rest of that evening.

The range officer said from behind her I could not see what she was doing that he seen from the side.

The Pistol has never missed a lick since then with her....

Unless I'm running the gun super wet, the Rem Golden are ridiculously dirty and gum the pistol up rather quickly. These wouldn't even be considered for me for SD, nor are they any more accurate or cheap, so I'm not missing out on any potential there.

The Winchester are physically longer, dirty as hell, and my Mossberg 715T, 22/45, or SR22 aren't totally reliable with these from the "555" pack. Matter of fact, I steer clear of WWB for center fires as well, unless its a bolt gun.

I will normally run CCI for all my guns because .22 is inherently dirty and running a pistol sopping with CLP and having to constantly clean is highly overrated.

We have a Ruger SR22 in the rental case. It has gone back twice for the trigger not resetting problem. So far it has been fine after the second trip but I am watching it closely.

I have an SR22 also. It eats any .22LR ammo that I've fed it, even the .22 std velocity military surplus stuff (it's Remington). All of it works quite well.

Regarding the sight - I found that I had to jack mine up quite a ways to have it anywhere close. When I got it adjusted, I loctited the screws in place because they were adjusted pretty much as far out as they'd go and I didn't want them flying off somewhere. No problems with the sight.

I've heard of the trigger reset issue on another forum and know that Ruger has resolved it for others.

Don't let your issues spoil the gun for you - it's a good little gun and generally works well. Maybe you just got one that has a few things to work out. I've been very happy with mine... but realize: it's no target pistol. It's just a fun pistol. :)
