First off, I'd just like to say hello to everyone. I discovered this board about 3 months ago and I am hooked. Having spent my entire life in the Seattle area, most of my friends are either indifferent or anti gun so, this forum has been a real breath of fresh air. I've spent countless hours browsing through the posts, old and new, and finally decided to jump in. Now for my question.

I know the info is out there so I feel a little lazy asking the question but, here goes. I bought an old Smith & Wesson M&P about a month ago. The gun has been re-blued and has those plastic imitation bone " cap gun " stocks so collector value is nil. I love the gun however and was just curious about its age. Serial # 264##.

Thanks in advance

According to Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas you have a .38 Special Hand Ejector M&P manufactured in 1902. ;)

They only made that version for 2 years (1902-1903) Production total was 12,827 guns - and that was over 100 years ago.

Given the gun's age, do not fire +P ammunition in it.

While the collector's value isn't great, it is far from nill ...
