Took a coworker out who had never fired a shotgun before but wanted a home defense gun other than his Granddad's pristine old 1911 that is probably worth more than my car. Put him through the paces with my old 870 Wingmaster and Winchester 120. He really liked the 870 and after half a box of hand thrown pigeons where he hit maybe 2, he caught his stride and cleaned up for the rest of the box. I kept them all slow, straight, and fairly level directly away from us as a confidence booster. That is.. except for the first one that kind of hung on me and I almost took his nose off!

The trip ended with a trip to the gunstore and he went home with a 870 tactical with the goofy breecher choke (the powder coated one with the extended magazine and a bead sight). We picked up a cleaning kit, a skeet choke, and a modified choke at the same time.

It is fairly tactical but would be a reasonably decent hunting shotgun which he has some interest in. If he decides to do that a lot he can always get a longer barrel.

Next weekend we will take it out for some more clays. This week his homework is to clean the crap out of the new gun and cycle the action a bunch of times.
