I just got my CZ-83 today, but it came without a magazine (the sales company wanted to charge $50 for a ten-round magazine:mad: ). Looking around, ProMag seems to have pretty inexpensive magazines, but I wanted to ask about their general quality.

I've generally had very bad luck with ProMags -- especially "pre-ban high capacity".

Promag I tried for my CZ97 was total junk. Got two good ones for my Para P10, $12 vs $50 from Para or Natchez, made up for some of my other poor experiences.

Get the real CZ 10-rounder from CZUSA, $34 MSRP. You can get a pre-ban 13-rounder from www.cdnninvestments.com for $50, but I'd wait, hopefully they'll be available direct from CZ for decent prices after the AWB sunsets.

CZ83 is a great gun, I'm sure you'll like it, a little large for the caliber IMHO but that makes it really easy to shoot.

--wally.

Edit: I'd vote USA brand mags as the worst you could buy.

Oddly enough, the only Promag magazines I have heard of being any good, are the ones they make for a gun that doesn't exist. That would be the ones they sell for the CZ75 Compact 40....which work well in the CZ75 Compact 9mm.....
I went through 5 ProMag CZ75 Compact 9mm magazines, and every one of them was junk.

i admit ive used um as range mags work ok in my Hk usp 45 but not worth crap in my ruger 45.. again i use um as range mags only i carry factory mags only when im carrying

I've generally had good luck with ProMags for a S&W 669, for several CZs, and for a Beretta or two. But springs tend to be weak and die young. And some ProMags for other guns have been nightmares for their owners.

Also had some, once, for a SIG P-210-6, when I wasn't prepared to spend $80 a mag for 8-round factory mags. After a LOT of work, reshaping followers, they did alright -- not factory, but OK for the range.

If you want to try them, and have problems, be prepared to deal with PRoMag directly, to get ones that work. (I've never had to do that, but know of others who have.) ProMag will send you new ones, and often extra stuff, too.

They're a crap shoot, but they'll work for SOME guns.

Malfunction drills.

Although, I had a 15 or so rounder for a Ruger P95, and a friend has two for his Ruger, that worked fine - never a miss.

I've had 14 (six for my 17/34 and eight for my 19) of the steel lined polymer mags made by Pro-Mag for several years. They have all been reliable for me.

The original springs were a little wimpy and I replaced them after about six months of constant use with Wolff brand springs. Other than that, they have been trouble free. I also have a bunch of Pro-Mag brand mags for the Ruger P series and S&W 59xx series and they have all been reliable as well.

Hit or miss is the word on these. I have had some that worked and some that didn't. I would never buy them again. I think that U.S.A. mags are the worst mags you can get. Promag has made a few decent mags but U.S.A. mags are total junk.

ProMags that have worked for me:
1. Bersa 383-A 10rd mag.
2. AR-15 30rd mag.
3. Mini-14 30rd mag.
4. Ruger P89 15rd mag.

ProMags that have not worked:
1. AR-15 30rd mag.
2. Glock 23 15rd mag.
There are other but I can't remember.

stick with factory and mec-gar magazines. though depending on the brand of pistol you may already have a mec-gar magazine if you own factory mag.

just a few the manufactures that use mec-gar magazines.

AMT Armscor Astra Beretta Bernadelli FN Browning BUL Charles Daly
Colt CZ IMI Kel-Tec Kimber Llama North American Arms Remington
Sigarms Smith & Wesson Springfield Armory STI Standard Arms Star
Steyr Tanfoglio Taurus Walther

"I think that U.S.A. mags are the worst mags you can get."

Agreed. At least of the ones that come with a name on the package.

I have 3 Pro-Mags for a CZ75B that work just fine.

I'll agree that Mec-Gar mags are the class act of the mag business, but understand -- once Mec-Gar becomes the sole OEM provider for a gun maker, they stop making them under their own brand.

That's why the only Mec-Gar you'll find for some of these guns (SIG and CZ, for example) are old ones that haven't been sold, or used ones.

Straight up, I'd opt to take ProMag over a Factory CZ-75 9mm mag. I don't ever remember having a single problem in the last two years with one of my 4 ProMags, but the original factory ones have been a bit spotty with their reliability.

However, Promags didn't work as well in my formerly owned EAA Witness .45. The feeding didn't feel very smooth and it just seemed to be overall cheaper than the Tanfoglio mags.

About the MecGars for a 9mm 1911, the little metal piece that lifts the slide stop broke off in two of my mags within days of using them. I've been trying to call them for a couple of replacement followers, but I've never gotten through to a live person.

I am planning on buying some ProMags for a Ruger P series because I've had good luck with them. I'm going to wait till Sept though, cuz I wanna see what'll happen to the market for 10 round mags.

ProMag Magazines

I have had very bad luck with ProMag mags. I have tried them for several of my pistols, including CZ compacts. The ProMags just don't work for me. I'd buy a CZ factory magazine. You might try www.GunBroker.com. I believe I recently saw an auction for 10 round CZ factory magazines for the 83 for $29.00. Which is high, however it bets CZUSA's price. Also, do a search on the CZ Forum. I just bought a full capacity CZ factory magazine (13 rounds) from a gentleman for $45.00 delivered. He may still have one or two left.

Good luck and enjoy the CZ83. They are a great little pistol.

My experience with promag comes from some full cap FML Glock mags, and 1911 mags. I couldn't get a single one to feed worth a darn!

What was I supposed to do with the Glock mag? I couldn't send them back, because promag is based in Kali. I got my money back for the 1911 mags, but was screwed on the Glock mags.

Promag magazines are nothing but junk in my book.
