I walked into a local store (Fin Feather & Fur in Middleberg Heights for you Ohio types) and I picked up an 8lbs jug of HP-38. It was the only one, but they also had 4lbs jugs of Win 231. Primers were plentiful, but overpriced at $39.99...hopefully they'll fix that soon.

Along the Ohio lines, my brother reports from Columbus that the newly opened Cabela's on the North End (Polaris Area) has been well stocked with reloading supplies including bullets. powder and primers. Locally to me the Gander Mountain in the Twinsburg area (SE Cleveland Burbs) stocks ammunition on Thursday mornings and frequently at 9:30 AM (half hour after opening) I am the only one there. Plenty of ammunition.

Should be in Columbus next weekend so I plan to visit Cabela's.

Same thing in north Georgia too. Powder plentiful and back to pre-crunch prices. Primers available in every size, but at the $39 level.

The Cabela's there had plenty of primers when I was there a couple of weeks ago but the price was near $40/thousand. They had powder but a very poor selection. Their bullet selection wasn't that good either.

Thanks for the heads up on Cabela's. I won't get my hopes up too much. :( Not like I need much right now fortunately. Surprised at their price on primers.

While I was well stocked with loaded .223 I ordered some from Cabelas on 27 December 2012, 800 rounds of Remington (4 EA. 200 Rounds Bulk) using my Cabelas card. They called a few weeks ago and asked if I would take PMC and I said yes. Last week it got here. They stuck with the original deal even though the PMC was 40 boxes of 20 rounds each.

I wish I had more choices here in NY for components. The very few I see are always out of stock and when they replenish stock they expect the mortgage payment for it..

As things return to somewhat normal it gets interesting. A member in one area of one state can't for example find a single elusive round of 9mm but can buy a truckload of .40 S&W. A few states away a member wanting .40 S&W can't find any but 9mm is abundant. Not like there is any rhyme or reason, it just seems to go that way.

What country does your buddy live in? .40 never went away at any point of the current craze and 9 went awol everywhere.

While the current drought never effected me personally while out and about I looked at what was out there. The only cartridge I saw in my area was 243 Winchester. So while .40 S&W may have never gone away and been abundant in Las Vegas I was not seeing any in my little corner of the world. Now obviously this discounts online sales with a focus on local retail.

Heck, powder valley has kept small pistol primers in stock for over a week and large pistol a few days now. Country attic in south lebanon ohio is usually well stocked on powder. I bought a couple pounds of both bullseye and unique last month for $16 ea. they had tons of 8lb jugs

I went into this well stocked and really haven't "needed" anything but here is what I tend to think is happening. Using small pistol primers as an example. Once someone has amassed maybe 15 or 20K of small pistol they are done. They move along to something else. This leaves small pistol primers for those still wanting or needing them. Component by component people will max out, that or do home additions or build out buildings to house inventory. Sooner or later you face a logistics problem. :)

Eventually the supply will catch up to the demand and finally exceed the demand. How many small pistol primers is enough? I guess it depends on how much you load or need based on individual needs.

"Proof that the supply is improving?"

I doubt that, the supply has always been good immediately after a shipment. The frantic panic buyers may be running out of storage room tho.

9mm jhp bullets are still scarce online or I'm not checking the right sellers
me and a shooting buddy split a brick each of LRP and SPP couple weeks back - hi-priced and scarce here. he got 'em at the funshow I didn't go and don't know about powder availible other than he got a 4# jug of PP. which we split it also. he payed a jackedup price for it too.

My local Wal-Mart has not been able to keep any kind of pistol ammunition on the shelves for longer than 24 hours since the election. It is still that way.

Until that stops, until republicans control both the house and senate, or until the world's best gun salesman leaves the white house in 2016, IMO the supply will not improve to Pre-Obama levels.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Cabelas is a nice place to browse, but their prices in the store are pretty high.

supplies

My local pawn shop now has powder, all sizes of primers, and bullets but still no 22lr. Fom

The only thing in the world I need, out of hundreds of related items, is 300 124 Speer Gold Dots and a really nice M4 upper receiver. LOL.
