Hello all, my father (who is on his deathbed) recently passed down several long guns to me, one of which is a modern inline muzzleloader. CVA Magbolt 150 50cal....I have no experience with blackpowder and had a question about the Pyrodex pellets. Everything I'm reading says there's an "igniter" end on these pellets. Looking at them, I don't see any difference in either end. Can anyone help me on this? Also, I've read that because this rifle is a "Magbolt", it will accept the magnum charge of 150gr black powder? Is this true? Thank you for any help you could give me, I'm new to this site and love what I've read thus far, very educational!

old pellets in a mag bolt

250 gr hornady sst sabot+3 777 50 gr pellets and a 209 primer = 3 in groups @ 200 yards...........with a little practice, buy new pellets every year or buy 777 3f powder in a can.reseal it tightly ,the load with loose powder should not exceed 100 grains by volume and the projectile should not exceed 400 grains these guns shoot good !,if not 209 equipped you can get a conversion breech plug @ bass pro shop, if Percussion only use loose powder only ....also don't take my word fer it search mag bolt owners manual.........:D

80gr - 100gr Pyrodex RS Loose, 295gr Powerbelt Aerotip.

i converted mine to shoot Blackhorn209 but thats a big of a pain to explain so try Pyrodex RS first.

why?

Each 777 pellet actually weighs only 33 grains, and cva recomends only 100 gr loose powder as does hodgeson powders, the pellets have a cavity that increases pressure spikes in tests, that compare with 120 grain loose powder,or so Ive heard :scrutiny:
