I've watched a few videos, read a few threads about mounting a flash hider.

Question 1, I'm sure it's all perspective, but what's the best way to mount a A2 type flash hider?
Crush washer or peel washer?

Question 2, is a barrel vice block required for this or will a upper receiver block work for this? In the video I saw a receiver block was used, but it seems that a crush washer needs a little torque to get the flash hider index correctly.

Thanks.

I've only installed an A2 once.

I had the barrel in a vise in aluminum V-blocks, and I used a crush washer for proper timing.

It was easy.

I guess I may be over thinking the whole thing, but I have invested quite a bit in the parts for this upper. Just wanted to make sure when I torque the flash hider I don't put additional torque on the barrel nut.

Thanks for the input.

A couple of homemade wood V-Blocks in a vice would be the way to go.

I would not use a receiver block to crank on the barrel.

I prefer the crush washer. IIRC you are supposed to turn the FH at least 90* after it gets tight and I think it can be turned a total of something beyond 360* without exceeding the range of the crush washer.

You have to actually crush the washer some for it to work properly. Also, it is a one shot deal. If you tighten too far you are supposed to start again with a new washer.

I used to have a shop where I used peel washers for years and then discovered the crush washers, and it was a welcome change. They are so much easier to use. The easiest wasy to hold it is to use aluminum barrel blocks in a vise with Brownell's rosin to keep from marring the barrel. Hope that helps.

I use "file folder" card board to line the barrel blocks. It works well both for a tight grip and to avoid marking the barrel.
