Am I missing something hear...this is our current law I believe. I have only read over it twice but do not see anything different then what we already have on the books?? What am I missing.

No not more...this is our standing law...I am gathering the only thing added here is the creation of a standard sign by the MSP. At least that is all that I see. But I am not a lawyer.

And it's pointless because the GFZs are not required to post it. I wish they were because it would take some of the guesswork out of determining if a restaurant is really a bar and how many seats a particular theater has.

Pretty much. All they're trying to do is make a standard sign for our PFZ's, in which the owner may post if they wish. It doesn't change our current PFZ's, or our ability to OC in them with a CPL.

And I agree, it'd be nice to actually know whether places are considered PFZ's or not.

Or (yeah I know, wishful thinking), we could just get rid of PFZ's. then there's definitely no guessing.

We almost had a law allowing CPL holders with "additional training" to carry concealed in pistol free zones. Sandy Hook and Governor Snyder's insistance that school superintendants be allowed to override concealed carry on their school grounds killed it.

Thank God that bill got vetoed.

Who is AMGOA?
American Gun Owners Alliance....a newer website that is putting together a "one stop shop" when it comes to laws and proposed bills for the entire united states. I have been on it a few times and need to get on it more. It does look like a well put together site.

They might as well go ahead and add libraries as some states already do.

Now that is a really soft target.
That is an entire different thread for Michigan. We are currently still at the end game of a lawsuit CADL vs MOC in which MOC (Michigan Open Carry) has already won but is being appealed a second time I believe. Costing the taxpayers a lot of money to defend an illegal action that District Libray committed.

When will legislatures wake up and recognize that the only "gun-free" zones that have any chance of being truly gun free are those at which there are searches, metal detectors, or similar measures in place. Without that, anyone who wants to carry into a GFZ simply does so. Nobody will know unless that person somehow exposes the gun, as in Sandy Hook, Aurora, etc. And when they do, none of the good guys will be able to respond in kind. Brilliant.

Those of us who respect the law, even the law we don't like, will avoid carrying in GFZs. Criminals will not. How that simple fact can be so lost on legislators is beyond rational comprehension. It can only be explained by examining why legislators do what they do--to appease uninformed voters in order to remain in office and thus hold onto their power.

For some reason they don't understand that anything run by a city/state/county is not special, and therefore NOT exempt from preemption.

True...would have done more harm to Michigan CPL holders then good in the end.

It wouldn't have done ANY good in my opinion. It took away our ability to OC in PFZ's, and it gave schools the option to not allow CC. It also gave signs the weight of law. Do you know how many signs would have went up?

All we would have got was the small chance that a few smart schools would allow us to CC in them. Woohoo! We can already OC in ANY school under current law, and they cannot ask us to leave because of it.
