PROPOSED WA SEMI-AUTO BAN BLAMES
LAW-ABIDING GUN OWNERS, SAYS CCRKBA

BELLEVUE, WA – A proposal to ban so–called “assault weapons” in Washington State shifts the blame for recent violent crimes from the perpetrators to every law–abiding gun owner in the state, holding them and their firearms responsible for crimes they did not commit, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

“This is a proposal by three vehemently anti–gun rights state lawmakers who are exploiting two recent murders in an effort to push a political agenda they have had for several years,’ said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “One of those slayings, the murder of Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton, didn't even involve the specific kind of firearm they want banned.”

State Senators Adam Kline (D–37th District) and Jeanne Kohl–Welles (D–36th District), and State Rep. Ross Hunter (D–48th District) will sponsor the legislation. They held a press conference this morning to announce their plans. The plan is supported by Washington CeaseFire, a small but radical gun prohibitionist group.

“Tens of thousands of Evergreen State citizens own the kind of semiautomatic sport–utility rifles and shotguns that these Democrat lawmakers want banned,” Gottlieb observed. “Those citizens have committed no crimes. They utilize their rifles for hunting, target shooting and competition, recreational shooting, predator control and even home defense. For Kline, Kohl–Welles and Hunter to demonize them and their firearms smacks of hysteria and social bigotry.

“These are not military firearms,” he continued. “Just because they are deceptively similar in appearance to military firearms is no reason to ban them. That’s like putting someone in prison just because he looks like a criminal.

“Such a ban violates Washington State’s constitutional right to bear arms provision,” Gottlieb noted. “We expect gun owners to express their outrage, not only during the upcoming legislative session, but also at the polls next November.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States. The Citizens Committee can be reached by phone at (425) 454-4911, on the Internet at www.ccrkba.org or by email to [email protected].

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I see NOTHING in the above, that allows them to BAN anything!:fire:
"military", semi-auto, or anything else.

That's fine, if they want to do it, then do it! Semi automatic whatever bans for all, no exceptions; not for military (state NG) or for LE (Local, State, or Fed.). The Federal Government will have to keep their guns in Federal Enclaves (military installations) and cannot transport between them.
Then we'll see how long this lasts.

So you honestly believe that?!? I have bridge for sale out in my back yard.

I wonder how many threads we are going to have started about this.

Yes, I do.
No, I don't.
It's all a matter of interpretation.
These anti gun states really need to turn the heat up on their common (non)sense gun control regulations so that people can see them for what they are. Stepping on Federal toes might help incorporate the 2nd Amendment. The stepping on State and Local toes is so we don't have a protected "elite" class of citizens.
...or maybe it's just sarcasm, and I forgot to put a clown nose in my post.

I always picture Washington state as a beautiful, outdoorsy type of place with a lot of beautiful areas and plenty of outdoor type people who are active sportsmen. Am I that wrong? What the heck is going on?

That's exactly what it is--Except for the greater Seattle area. There's as many voters in that little enclave as there are in the rest of the state. If it weren't for King and Pierce counties we'd likely be a Red State.

Seattle is a cesspool of truly frightening enviro-fascist groupthink.

The rest of the state is nice.

Actually, Seattle is a nice city if you don't have to work there, don't have to interact with the locals too much, and you don't have to be there between November and April. It's one of the only cities I've been to, where the tourists aren't annoying, but the locals really are.

Nevertheless, I can't imagine anything more politically STUPID than doing this right now. Like Conservative Republicans in 2008, Liberal Democrats are not going to show up at the polls too eagerly in 2010, by all indications. Independents and Republicans, OTOH, will be out for blood, and opposition to gun control is one rallying point. Some interesting polls have come out lately.

Ming: You're not wrong about WA - but we do have some radical prohibitionistas, particularly in the Seattle/King County area. Our lame-duck mayor and our mayor-elect are two of them. They apparently represent the majority in Seattle - but are a minority state-wide. Fortunately, the state constitution preempts the ability of municipalities or counties from enacting laws that are more restrictive than state laws.

This bill would require state-wide support to pass. Just like the mayor's recent "order" prohibiting firearms on city property, it doesn't have a chance and they know it.

Unfortunately, that doesn't stop them from using city and state funds and the local biased media to create these kinds of grandstanding publicity stunts.

One of the local news stations reported this enthusiastically as a bill to "...ban the sale of semi-automatic rifles. They also want to require owners to pass background checks..."

A ban on semi-automatic weapons. Really? All of them? As usual, they don't know the difference between semi-automatic and fully automatic - and don't care.

On the same "news" program, Washington Ceasefire Board President Ralph Fascitelli declared:

"These are weapons of war...They can kill, shoot 200 bullets a minute...Anybody that uses a semi-automatic to hunt is an animal assassin. You know, that's someone who would take an M-80 and throw it in a pond of water to kill fish.".

The good news is that these clowns are increasingly desperate and seem to be more and more prone to making jack-asses out of themselves.

They try this every other year or so. Always dies a quick death. Still, it's highly irritating to have to go through this over an over.

*IF* this law gets passed I highly doubt it would be without a clause allowing said firearms for LEOs and military. Even if it did somehow pass without such an exception I think the chances of it being enforced against LEOs/Military would be about the same as my chances of winning the lottery...without buying a ticket. Thinking that we could somehow force LEOs/Military to abide by the same gun laws as civilians is just a pipe dream IMO.

I really hope this law does not pass though, and will be doing whatever I can to help insure that it doesn't.

Hey MD, good to see you still fighting with WA State :)

Personally I think this is completely bogus, not that I live in WA any more. What would be really cool though is if every arms manufacturer acted like Barrett, who refused to sell or service any of his weapons in California, when they passed the 50cal ban. As he said it was illegal, and counter to the 2nd and 14th amendments, and he would not sell or support his firearms that were owned by criminals. Now if we could only get every other manufacturer to do the same, when all is said and done, we're their customer base too, here's a link http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1389702/posts

I hope you're not holding your breath for your interpretation of the proposal to ever happen...

There's nothing wrong with military firearms. Most of us know that. Let's not concede any ground to the type of reasoning that civilians shouldn't own military-class weaponry. That's what leads to AWB-type legislation. It's my belief that it's not the 3 million active and reserve soldiers that deter other would-be rulers from invading our borders - it's the 80 million civilian gun-owners.

This is just one more attempt to disarm the populous I guess the politicians feel safer if they can keep the people they are serving helpless. History is full of governments that did this same thing. Germany and Russia come to mind. England did this before the second world war and then begged us to send them weapons, now they have done it again (I am not smart enough to understand this). The west side of Washington and Oregon seam to have a lot of the same people that live in California. Maybe the next election some of us will vote out the problem but too many people will vote for a hand out and not a way of life. JMHO : Bill
