Just taught my son to handload his first cartridge! 9mm 147 grain Hornady XTP with 3.4 grains of Titegroup... tomorrow... he gets to shoot them :)

He progressed from the step by step instruction to me helping him double check his powder weight and cartridge overall length.

Its an extra special moment for me since he only comes over about once a month. It's taken me a while to get him interested.

That is some great stuff! Welcome to a whole new world of bonding and activities with your child. How old is your son?

My son started dabbling at the reloading bench with me when he was about 9. He is 12 now and he can reload on the single stage pretty well. I will supervise him and he will put together 50 rounds for our next range trip. He loves to shoot ammo that he made, it reminds me of my first time shooting my own ammo.

I reload with my 14 year old son. He has helped me since he was about 8 and now he is very competent. I value our time together more than anything else and this is just another way of spending time together. We go shoot together and he insists his loads are the most accurate...but only if he is shooting them. I can't think of a better way of establishing a lasting relationship. Congratulations on getting your son started!

He's about to turn 10. Sadly, he lives far away and we don't get to see each other often. Thus, bonding is hard. I haven't been able to take him shooting or hunting because his Mother was being a pill about it. That is, until her new husband decided to take him shooting hunting a couple of times.

I figured why not use that to my advantage. So i mentioned to her how he told me about his new hobby and how awesome that was. She was kinda quiet when I told her I think I'll join in on it

So, when he came over, I showed he a few of my "cool" rifles and pistols (the type he see's on video games and then showed him how I can make my own ammo.

He thinks it's cool :D
