Proving Service for Garand Purchase?

In my other thread I was faced with the question between a Garand and an M70. I've decided on the Garand.
However, I'm confused on how I can prove eligibility as it is Illegal to photocopy my CAC.
 
That I can't answer. CMP (assuming that is where you are ordering from) and your Provost Marshal (if you live on post) would be better to get the info from.
 
Contact CMP directly.

Ask what they require.

Here are some ideas for you:

Your enlistment contract.

LES (A current copy)

ERB

The above all show proof that you are currently serving. (Army)
If your serving in a different branch of the military, I would assume that all have versions of the above, but might be called something different.

For those that already are out = DD214.
 
I received a notice yesterday or today from CMP that they are out of the cheaper grades, have specials available. Ask military authorities what you can send...CMP is wonderful. I recommend them without qualification...avoid commercial SAI, inc.

The guns you get through CMP are well used by Filipinos. If I was interested in a M1 I would buy a new one from Springfield.

Wait, what? Please, elaborate - I'd love to hear more.

OP, you will get a rifle as described, or better from the CMP.

And good luck buying a new one from Springfield.
 
Springfield Armory Incororated (SAI) has not made any M1 Garand's for quite awhile now. A "new" M1 might be found on the market, but a "current production" M1 aint gonna happen, as they are not being made nowadays.

If you end up with a CMP M1 that happens to have Springfield Armory stamped on the receiver heel, it will not be from SAI, but from the original government run Springfield Armory.

FWIW....... SAI M1 receivers were cast receivers, where as the original's were forged.

Not saying that one is better than the other here, but pointing the difference out so the OP knows what he is a looking at.

If ya really want one, get it now, as they will eventually be gone, and only go up in value afterwards.

I have 3, and they are not for sale.

Garands CMP has are Greek returns as well as from Turkey. Yes there is a huge backlog from all the panic buying but the best deal around.
There are plenty of Garands available on the private market just be prepared to spend hundreds more than through CMP
Dupage Trading as well as The Garand Guy also sell garands
 
Call CMP customer service as they will walk you through the process. They've done this 1000's of times before. If you want a Garand from CMP get your order in quick, the email I got from them this past week says they are only taking orders for HR Service grades and Specials ( NO Rack or Field grades ) along with their Premium Grands. IF they find any Springfields they will offer them to people on the HR waiting list first. The CMP rifles are the BEST deal going, they are disassembled, inspected - head space, chamber throat and muzzle and tested before shipping. Check out the forum section on the CMP website - sounds like LOTS of happy customers. Be prepared to wait though it may take up to 6 months.

There's no luck involved. You WILL get a Garand. You'll just have to wait like everyone else.
 
One common problem is that people resell CMP Garands at gun shows for much higher prices.

After they leave the CMP, you have no idea whether other people did anything to internal components, or substituted a part.

Which doesnt really matter anyway (so long as parts swapped are USGI) because they are all mix masters anyway.
 
Jackal: Quite true, but it is possible that somebody might have altered a component, or has one with serious corrosion, especially when so many sellers are selling ""for a friend". Many of these people at our shows usually shrug their shoulders when asked a question, and claim that they know nothing about the guns......;).
As most of us realize, the CMP tests each of their rifles, along with listing the TE/ME using their tools.

A friend (retired from The Navy Rifle Team) who procured my rifle during the Camp Perry Matches about three years ago told me that he had access to the parts truck. Those guys supposedly can swap parts and have all SA, H&R, Win. parts if they want to.

Very true. I will say, I did luck out once and got a correct (except the greek stock) service grade H&R. That was awesome! I also had to order 12 rifles to get that...:banghead:

SA in Geneseo, IL is a great company and has worked on my M-1's for me (even though they really don't offer this as a service). That said, go original on your M-1- the receivers are just not duplicated by a cast receiver such as SA used to offer. M-1 came along at a 'sweet spot' in design and metalurgical history and, to replicate the process used to make those receivers would cost several 1000's of dollars a pop these days. Spend the money on a goiod receiver as it will last for an undetermined ammount of time~likely measured in centuries with ordinary care.
