Pretty much decided that I am going to get a Russian scope for my rifle. I understand the AK platform is not optimal for sniping, but I don't plan on sniping. I do pretty well with the rifle the way it is, but I'm looking for a little more precision at distance and for easier target acquisition at longer range.

The red dots are more than I'm looking to spend, I've decided on a 4x scope, and I've even mounted one from a friend's PSL on my rifle and like the way it handles and the range. My question is, does this one from centerfire systems

http://centerfiresystems.com/drasco.aspx

have the 7.62x54R trajectory on it or the 7.62x39? Does it really matter under 400 yards (past which the AK is definitely the wrong tool for the job anyways). I can learn where the rifle shoots on the scope at different ranges if it is actually for 54R, but I'm just wondering.

Also of note, I don't really want to spend more than 150 total for the scope. Also checked Kalinka but they don't' have what I'm looking for in my price range. If I missed something though, please let me know.

Cheers

UTG makes a mount for the AK then you can mount any scope and rings. Also wondered about the pso scopes, that would be a more authentic set up. Likely more durable dollar for dollar.

I have noticed that the posp scopes move the reticle when you zero so be ready for an aiming point that far from center of the view from the scope. It could be up in the upper half and right or left of center. To me the SVD mount is well thought out but the AK attempts were made only as an afterthought. They place the scope up pretty high and the short AK buttstock creates the possibility of the scope smacking your eye socket when you shoot if you are not careful.

I had a 4x POSP on my SAR-1 and it was a fantastic scope. I eventually switched to a Kobra because the POSP made 0-50 yard shooting harder than with the irons (precision was great, but close target acquisition is tough through a 4x tube) and I do passably well out to 200 with the Kobra. But if you don't care about close range speed and want more precision at a distance, the POSP is perfect.

My POSP's optics were remarkably clear, the chevron reticle with rangefinder was awesome, and the after-dark illumination was perfect. It was a little heavy due to the big siderail mount, but it seemed to hold zero fine.

The PSL scope has a different mount and is made for the SVD side rail, not the AK one. Not sure if it would hold zero

That is true, but it'll hold zero if you tighten the cam adjusting nut enough. I've got a couple on my Saigas.

Despite not having a diopter adjustment the PSOP was one of the clearest reticle images for me as before I had Lasik I was at the limit of most scope adjustments to get the reticle in good focus (I had poor near vision).

My main knock on the Centerfire offerings is they may not include the rear rubber eyecup -- IMHO you really want this. The front cover you can do without.

As you can see from the picture in the previous post, that scope will sit high enough that you will have to add a cheek rest to the stock in order to use a proper shooting position. Just something to be aware of. They are really tough scopes, and are an effective way of getting around the accuracy limitations with the short radius iron sights.

I have mounted one on my rifle already I borrowed from a friend, and the centerfire scope has an adjustable locking mechanism. This guy's scope I borrowed was from a PSL, and it locked onto my rifle just great. I also already have a 2" butt extension on my rifle because I'm 6' 6'' and the stock was just too little. Probably go with this one in the next month or two then...another paycheck or two
