I'd also reconsider the benefits of an Arsenal AK over a cheaper model, or at least handle a bunch before you buy one.

What about fully American-made AKs like Arsenal AKs? Are they as reliable as the real thing?

If its made correctly it will be very reliable. The Ak is a very simple design and is reliable because of that. No tight tolerances or lots of small moving parts to jam up the system.

I have always considered the G3 rifle to be a full power battle rifle version of the AK/AKM concept.

Inexpensive to produce, easier to rebuild than an AK type rifle, generally more accurate and just as reliable with all kinds of ammunition.

The G3 is the second most popular rifle after the AK/AKM in Africa and the middle eastern countries and for good reason.
