Have you used any of the surplus pull down powder? If so, what is your opinion of it. Good results? Dependability? Would you use it for hunting rounds? I am considerint getting some IMR4895 from Bartlets. Any info. would be ,greatly appreciated.

Have used ALOT of surplus IMR4895 powder. It's probably the most versatile of all rifle powders. The only problem with it these days is it's lack of availability and higher price. When I bought it, it was $78 per 8# container.

Hey Tggdeer,

Nearly fifty years ago, I started reloading with Hodgdon's original 4831 extruded powder that cost less than 75 cents by the one pound container. Guess what? It was a surplus pull down powder that was made during and for WWII. Lot of old folks here remember and used 4831 powder because it was cheap, and it was very good.

In all the years since then, I have continued to use many different surplus powders that are available, and they perform very well.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile
