Visiting with family today, my Dad tells me he just picked up a used 12 gauge shotgun. Knowing I am kind of the family gun guy, he shows it to me and asks what he just bought lol. The only markings on the barrel are 12 ga. 3”, and there is a serial number on the left side of the receiver.

The best I can guess is a Stevens Model 77, but it does not say Stevens anywhere on the barrel or anything. It also has a tang mounted safety, while the Stevens 77 online has a cross bolt safety. Maybe it is a store brand? My Dad only paid $150, and has not fired it yet.

Any info is appreciated.

I knew a guy that had that same gun. A Coast To Coast hardware store brand I think.
As I recall it wasn't much of a gun.

Did Savage/Stevens make a pump action with a tang safety?

Usually a pump with a tang safety screams Mossberg. Mossberg, Savage/Stevens, and Winchester made a lot of shotguns under contracts for different department stores.

Master Mag was a store brand made by Mossberg, it had a tang safety.

Thanks for the help, it appears to be the coast to coast model 267. Everything looks identical except the tang safety.

These shotguns do not appear to be highly regarded, what are the problems with them?

I know it is not a mossberg 500 or rem 870, but it looks like parts are available.

I think my dad overpaid a bit.

Based on the Savage/Stevens 67. Retailers had them under a dozen names.

Maybe your dads gun was made for a different retailer that specified the tang safety.
They are just a cheap gun, feed poorly, sloppy action. Your dad probably overpaid but $150, not a big deal.
