Alright, i had my eyes on a Del-Ton M4 flattop kit with a chrome lined bbl and rra 2 stage trigger. After all is said and done (with receiver and BUIS) it will be around $800.

Or

i can buy a Marlin 30-30, build another AK (Romy Underfolder), get a K31, and get a used SW 357 revolver or RIA 1911.

I only own a few guns, so to add more versatility to my collection would be great. OTOH, the AR platform is proven as a great rifle.

Any advice? Maybe im getting cold feet about spending that much on one gun?

Buy a GLOCK

or

"Buy a Marlin 30-30, build another AK (Romy Underfolder), get a K31, and get a used SW 357 revolver or RIA 1911."

Sounds like simple math to me. Four is better than one.:D

Depends on your goals. If you plan to buy more firearms in the coming months or years but have the $800 now I would go for the M4. You will love it and have alot of fun with it and it will last a lifetime. It will be easier to save up $300 or so one at a time for the other firearms. It is difficult sometimes to get a larger amount together, so take advatage of your savings and get the more expensive firearm while you can.

On the other hand, if this is likely your last purchase for the next several years, then the four other firearms would give you a lot of versatility. But having bought both a few nice rifles and several inexpensive ones (SMLE, M98, MAK-90, etc.) I bet you would much more enjoy the one very nice one than having three of the others. The Marlin and S&W would be nice and the only reason to go that route.

I wanted an AR of some type for more than 20 years. I couldn't continue to save for the AR b/c I would find something else I wanted or felt like I needed. Do you suddenly have the $800.00 or did you save it for the AR, If you wanted it enough to save for it then I'd buy it now while you are ready.

My guess if you saved the $ for the gun your sudden realization that you could buy all the other stuff is cold feet. I know for me $800.00 is a lot. It is much easier to save the $250 for the S&W or $ fo the 30-30 etc. You can add those as you go if that is what you want to do.

My wife finally got tired of me wanting an AR and bought me one for Christmas last year. I Love that gun. Since obtaining it I have really not had much desire to purchase another gun, I am currently satisfied with the amount and type of guns I own, primarily bc of the addition of the AR.

However, a compact Kimber .45 to join his big brother has been creeping into my thoughts lately.

Oh yeah, IMHO "buy a glock" is never a bad idea either.

If you've already got an AK, then buy the K31, the S&W 357, and a Glock. The AR is too expensive right now, it can wait until you have a more rounded armory. You probably don't need another AK, and the .30-30 is ballistically similar to that. The K31 is different and ballistically better. Everybody needs a revolver, and the Glock is just good all around.

I'd go with the AR, esp if you are not a hunter. I shoot CMP high power competitions with my Bushy, great fun. It's a gun you can shoot a lot without getting beat up by it, also cost per round is not that bad. These guns can be amazingly accurate. The AR is also a pretty good HD platform in the shorter bbl length versions. You can buy different length/style uppers for it as $$$ permit. New in-wrapper mags for these are 10 bucks.

Now, if you want to hunt deer, the 30-30 lever is hard to beat. I have an AK too, it's also a fun piece, but I don't have a desire for a second one like I do for another AR. Regards,

NS

Thanks for the responses!

I currently carry a Glock 17 and wont for very much longer. Its not that its inaccurate or unreliable or heavy, but that I unholster and "put here", then "put there" during the day and am tired of clearing the barrel (its not unattended, just not in my pants). Just pref, My 645 should be back soon. :D

As for the rifles:

i did just come into this money and dont know if im going to save up this much any time soon.

A good point is made that its easier to save $200 than $800, but is the AR worth it? the answers Ive received so far is yes.

And that the majority of you all would take the AR.

Thanks,

Jesse

People will always debate the effectiveness of the .223 for combat.

BUT, in terms of fun and accurate target shooting it can't be beat. :D And I for one would not want to be on the receiving end of a man defending his home with an M4.
