Hey ya'll,
I have a quick question. If I am looking at the trading post listings and I want to buy a rifle or pistol FTF and I live in LA. and the seller is in ALA. do I need to involve a FFL dealer or can I drive to ALA. and buy it outright like I can if I am buying from one LA. res. to another LA. res.?
thanks,
e'trode

If the party lives in another state you MUST go through a FFL. No if, ands or butts about it (except your for commiting a felony).

FTF with in the confines of you home state are regulated by your state, IE if no "registration" is required a FTF transaction is probally cool.

But in no circumstances do you cross state lines or allow the seller to cross state lines with the intention of selling you a firearm.

Now if I understand the law correctly, he can bring into your state and take it to a FFL and you can pick it up (4473 is involved) from said FFL but that's the only way.
Sorry.

In the case of a long gun (non handgun) you may also go to an FFL in the seller's state and transfer it, subject to any state laws that may apply. You may only take possession of a handgun in the state in which you reside, per the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Yes you need to have it shipped to a FFL in your state. The reason for this is (as you know), handguns from other states are FAR more deadly and dangerous than the same model purchased in your home state. They become school-seeking weapons of death with a mind of their own.
:uhoh:
