Well for anyone that has seen my last few threads I decided on which 1911 to buy as my first one. I went with a SA loaded in the parkerized finish. The price was just right and the features you get for the money sold me on the gun. The gun shops I go to swear by Springfield so I feel real good about my purchase. I hope to have some pics of it in the coming weeks. Dose anybody who owns a model like this have any pics of theirs with mods done to it? I want some ideas for mine but I am new to the 1911s so I am not sure of what all there is out there for customizing one.

Leave it like it comes and shoot it. They don't need tinkering with first thing. Learn to use what you have. Then later on you can when you know more decide what you might want to change. More good 1911's are ruined because people want to change things. Belive it or not Factory's really know what their doing .

SA 1911's

I have had good luck with SA 1911 pistols. However, extractors are their weak point. I replace them with Wilson extractors which is a pretty simple process. Also, I don't like the ILS and replace those parts with standard 1911 mainspring parts, a #20 mainspring, and an Ed Brown FP made specifically for SA 1911's. :)

Good pick for a first 1911.

I agree with Michael, shoot the bejeezus outta your gun first. Use the mod money for ammo, practice makes perfect. A accurate gun is usually by the shooter, not the gun.

After a lot of rounds thru the gun, if theres anything else you wanna change to suit you, go right ahead. But right now, you have most of the bells and whistles most need on a gun.

Happy shooting.

I still have yet to find anything worth replacing on my SW1911, several thousand rounds into ownership.

Shoot it a while before tinkering, is my advice.
