Does anyone have any good stories about adding to their collection to mark life events? Jobs. Retirement. Kids. Marriage. Whatever.

I'll be a first time dad soon and thought after I buy my wife a little something, I might buy something for myself to commemorate the event.

What would be appropriate?

A friend had twins and I thought a double barrel shotgun would be fitting. Then I wondered about triplets...Spartan 3 maybe. Or three Ruger Mark IIIs.

Anyway, late night discussion...what say you?

These sorts of life events have an adverse effect on purchases. They tend to eat up the available money. And, in the case of marriage, you might have a second person that would have to give the OK.

Oooo I like this idea....... Just got some good news from my wife. My second child, her first. An XD9 I've been wanting forever sounds like a great way to celebrate to me!!!

I started ramping up my purchases after I divorced. :D

I have two sons, currently 13 and 17. I started a tradition two years ago (almost) of buying my oldest son a long arm of his choice (he chose 30.06) when he turned 16. I am planning on upping the ante and buying him his choice of handgun when he turns 18. Actually, I already bought it but he doesn't know yet. My youngest son loves the idea of the tradition and can't wait until he turns 16!

I have also decided to set aside $1,000 of every future IRS refund specifically for firearms, ammo or accessories. I suppose an annual event can be considered a life event.

I don't plan on ever re-marrying or having any more children so those milestones are out. I passed 50 so I missed that one. Maybe I'll do something for my 60th when I get there.

I'm planning on buying myself a .45 next year for my 45th birthday. Haven't decided between the 1911 or a Sig P220 but still I thought it was fitting.

My 14 y/o son, that we just won custody of this year, decided to take the money he recieved from his confirmation (affirmation of baptism) to purchase a Henry Golden boy engraved with the bible verse he chose to read at the ceremony. I believe that I will be giving him my standard Henry so that he doesn't beat the Golden boy up carrying it through the woods.

On my best friends wedding day (I have been married for three years now, I was his best man in his last month), I gave him an older S&W .38 airweight with one bullet and a card telling him good luck in marriage. It was a funny thing between all the guys.

Nice.

Sweet

I guess I like the idea of engraving. Perhaps I'll engrave name/date on some grips and buy the gun later ...

The morning before my wedding my friends/groomsmen gave me my first 1911. I was super excited and we shot it until we were almost late for the wedding. I will always think of that day when I look at that gun. I like the idea of a gun to commerate a special event because the gun will most likely be around forever.

So...how is it the gun of his choice if you bought it without his knowledge?

I got my XDm compact when I bought my condo and moved out of my parent's basment! But that was more a gift for something I was already going to buy. My guns are utilitarian in purpose.

P7 and a Shield to replace p11 cause of arthritis.
and the shield's recoil is like that of a 22LR. its amazing!
the P7 will be for winter carry.
gone also is the defender for a Sig C-3

arthritis is rather unpleasant; but can be worked around

When I got married my wife bought me a Springfield 1911 for a wedding present. Our first daughter is due in about 4 weeks and I am thinking about buying something to celebrate that as well, maybe a pink cricket for when she is ready...

For my brothers wedding, I made him an 1861 Colt Navy revolver (one of his favorites, along with the 1851 Colt Navy), from a kit and bought a presentation case for it, along with all the period accessories. On the lid I had a brass plate engraved with his name, the date, and the occasion for the gift. I thought it was a pretty unique, one-of-a-kind gift.

My life events; Inheritance bought a gun, sold some timber bought a gun sold some more timber bought another gun, another inheritance another gun.

I bought a Springer TRP 1911 as a gift to myself for surviving cardiac bypass surgery. I joke to my wife about buying a Cricket for our new granddaughter. Our daughter is on board but son-in-law is an anti.

No.

However, I have used events to add sentimental value (what word am I looking for? not sentimental...). I wore one of my handguns throughout my wedding day and a different one as best man in my brother's wedding.
