223/cast lead at a mere Lyman#2/BN:15 easily handles 2,500 fps
¿ . . . and if it were ?... this isn't for an AR, is it?
I'm guessing you didn't mean pure lead as in the alloy but a plane lead bullet with no jacket or gas check. Yes, you can shoot Cast bullets in the .223 but I would think you will need a BHN of at least 15 of 16 with a good quality lube. The bullet diameter should be at least .225" .Could you cast a pure lead 5.56 bullet, with no jacket? Or rather would it hold together when fired?
"PC" does mean Powder Coated. Powder Coating is an alternative to lubricating bullets. The purpose of both Powder Coating and lubricating is to prevent leading.First post says: "I've used the Lee 223 boolit, not even working up a load, but going for 2500 or so FPS, we had 2-3" @ 100m, and that was PC'd and no GC. Could have gotten alot better, but for plinking ammo, it was awesome."
Does "PC'd" mean power coated? If so it puts it in slightly different light. Granted, I'm not a "boolit" guy, just shoot lead in .45 sometimes.
Hard to say -- I shoot cast bullets made from wheel weights from an M1 and have no problems. If you did, would it survive feeding into an AR? Or would it deform on the feeding ramp? I have no idea, just curious, I've only ever shot FMJ out of mine.
