Saw this at MidwayUSA the other day, I remember a while back someone was wondering how to "mark" their brass.
This may be a way?? Anyone know of a safe process used to turn brass this purple tint?
I'm sure it's a safe chemical wash of some sort.

I'm not really interested myself, just thought this may be good info for someone ? :D

Machinery's Handbook has recipes for colouring every metal. Not really a new thing. A Sharpie will do that.
Midway's picture doesn't look like brass to me though. Not that it matters.

Im w/SUN RAY on this one as when I worked w/precious metals it was an oxidation process that colored them? And someone always speaks well of the sharpie and to find/plunk test that's the ticket! Bingo dauber for bulls eye dot from think"n WALKALONG for many targets is my go to!:) when it comes to my memory!

I know that a mixture of water, vinegar, a little salt and some dawn dish soap will turn brass pink.
That "pink" is the result of the zinc in the brass leeching out. Weakens the brass - not a good thing.

YEP...Bad idea, don't try this at home folks.:)
