Well guys, thanks for the help with the revolver picking on the other thread, I went to the gun store well armed (bad pun, i know) with what was good for what I was looking for. I plan to carry this, but I will be using a Sholder holster as I HATE IWB.

I looked over what they had, good range of stuff....

They had a nice selection of revolvers, and I had a fair amount of fun looking over some.

There was a nice colt with orignal grips, but I decided that I would be too tempted to make it a safe queen, and I was not in a market for a safe queen....

I ended up taking looks at these guns

From Ruger
SP101
GP100
Service 6

a Dan Wesson

And From S&W
Model 10
Model 15-5
Model 30
and others

The Dan Wesson revolver was nice, but I knew they had stop making revolvers completly, and I decided that I wanted to stick with more of name brand (Ruger, Colt, and S&W) as this will be a carry gun, (most likely a sholder holster)

The SP101 they had where the Snub nosed, and I wanted a little more then a snub nose, and they had just sold there .327 mag, so off to the other guns.

The Service Six was a nice gun, so it was noted to "come back to" gun.
The GP100 had a trigger job, so it was a NICE gun, big yes, but NICE. and not a bad price... So it was a "come back to" gun.

In the Smith and Wessen the model 10's where nice, and not bad priced, but they where well used, mostly holster wear but you could tell that they had been fired a good bit. Well loved and in good shape, so I kept looking.

The model 15-5 was nice, VG to excellent shape, (ALMOST NIB shape, one of those guns that never was in a holster and shot six times) original handle/stock bluing is very good on it, good function, nice trigger. Very impressive little gun, (didn't see if it had USAF or other markings)

so it was in the "Come back to" list"

the model 30 I liked a lot, started to smile, then I saw what they wanted for it :what::what::what:

Even the clerk was like "Wow, thats high" (and this is from a store noted for having a higher sticker price then most) (before someone askes, it was about over $850! IIRC )

So, I was looking at the GP100, the Security six, and the Model 15. the GP100 was really nice, and it did have a REALLY nice trigger to it, but it too big for carry, so it was put behind the counter.

So it was the Speed six and Model 15, both basicly the same price, and after some messing I figured I like the Model 15 better for my needs. :)

I did not have my state paperwork (NC requires a handgun purchase permit, which is very easy to get in my county), and I also need to wait till payday if I don't want to eat Ramen for the rest of the month; So I put $100 to it and put it on layaway.

$435 + tax plus fees = 500 out the door.

Now, is the model 15-5 just .38 speical, or can I use .38 Sp. +p?

and what brand of speedloaders do you recommend for the model 15?

Yes, the Model 15 can certainly handle +P ammo. Although personally I would expect to get that gun for less money, I do not also have to pay permit fees and the like - and if it makes you feel any better, you can't get a new S&W for that much. So shoot whatever .38s you want in it and enjoy the heck out of it. You'll be wanting more S&Ws before long.

The Greater Charlotte Area is horrid for "deals" of any sort on firearms. Does not matter if you go to the mom and pop or the big stores, you just rarely see any deals. I don't buy pre-owned guns online, so you get what you can get.

I am actually winding down my gun buying spree. Going to pick up a AK-clone and then just buy up ammo and hold off any purchases for a while, only spent over 2 Grand this year on guns ;)

yep,

CZ 550
Browning Hi Power
Nagant Revolver
S&W model 15
Savage .22lr rifle

As for hte Model 15... I really don't think it had more then 30 rounds though it, it in that type of shape.

I am not going to buy anything new except ammo...yes...just ammo...Just don't show me more revolvers or I might buy again!

"...will be using a Shoulder holster..." Re-think that. In any case, buy the one that fits your hand best. Nothing else matters if you can't easily reach the trigger.

What is the issue that you are refering to, I will not be IWB as I find that as confortable as being stuck on a transatlantic flight surrounded by the unwashed memebers of a metal band who coming back from there european tour.... (which I HAVE experinced BTW)

I have not bought a holster, but I know IWB is right out :) - But I am wondering why you said that my idea is bad...

Nice purchases. From experience, I found that both S&W and Colt revolvers multiply like bunnies. My first S&W was a hand-me-down Model 32-1 in 99% shape (which doesn't get fired anymore) and all of a sudden, I had 5 more Smiths.

I liked a lot of the revolver you listed and would have enjoyed looking at them too. Of the ones you listed I also would have picked the M15 so of course I think you choose well!! LOL But again, all would have been a fine choice. Some will think you should have chosen a .357 Magnum but I like the .38 Special. (although I do own a 2.75" Police Service-Six in .357 Magnum) What barrel length does your M15 have?

I would rather pocket carry so I also like S&W Ariweight J frames which you didn't mention.

As for speedloaders, I had and used HKS speedloaders and they were good but once I used Safariland speedloaders I sold off the HKS loaders and replaced them all with Safariland. I use their Comp I loaders for my J frame and their Comp II loaders for my K/L frame revolvers.

Although the price seems a bit high a M15 is not often seen. They are sweet guns and owners tend to hold on to them. So if you pass on one because of the price do so knowing it may be a while before you run across another one and by then they could be even higher.

A shoulder holster works fine, once you figure a few things out that you generally aren't told. I have a thread over in the holster section on my Uncle Mikes shoulder rig with some good tips on 'em. I carry a full size .357 under a vest and you'd never know it.

drgong ,great gun, I just purchased one myself in similar condition, I paid around 350 plus tax, so about 375 otd. It is a great gun and you will really like it. Buy plenty of ammo because you will enjoy shooting it a lot. Have fun

4'' barrel, a bit big but I am thinking it will be my winter carry...

I will be perhaps buying another revolver in March/april, at which point I will be looking at snubbies for summer carry. I live in the mountains and it only one month away from jacket weather ;)

Seems that yes, I paid a little high, but I prefer the store as it has a wide selection (most stores around here will just have a Ladysmith with pink grips/stock and another snubby for the men, and perhaps a bear gun (.44 mag or bigger)the rest autoloaders) You get what you can get. That and the store knows me by name, and the next time when I see say, a nice colt I can say "I bought a lot of guns from you guys, what type of deal can you do..."

Anyways, the next two weeks are going to be long till I can get back to pick up the gun..

Hey gong didn't you get your first handgun quite recently? Quit buying them all up and leave some for the rest of us!

I kid, I kid, but seriously congratulations on your new revolver, have fun with it!

I like K frame Smiths. Picked up a cherry 2'' 15-2 blue. Personally I prefer
getting guns off the net. The prices are fair. You can always tell because
those are the ones being bid on. I have a good gunshop guy here in town.
I get some good deals at times. I missed a real good deal on a mod 10 2''
rb blue 99%. went for 350. Cant buy em all tho. I know when I am bidding
other people want it too. That makes it even more desirable. Plus the RUSH
I get when I win at the very last moment. Right now I'm working on a M38
2'' blue pinned barrel

Yes, I am a confirmed gun nut (well I bought a nagant, and then found that I shoot the nagant better then the BHP. Such is life) That and I am a single professional with no wife, GF, or kids with rent that is under $400 a month makes it so that I have a lot of "Gun money"

Don't worry, Buying them up before the novemeber election "Just in case" and I just going to buy myself a AK clone for october (then buy ammo in novemeber)

Where in the Charlotte area did you find it?
Hyatts

I plan to take the CCW class with the mod 15, then in March get a snub nose or 2 1/2 inch for summer carry.

Good call, I've got a little fellow on the way and have been buying like crazy (well, as much as my income permits) this past month or so because I know my purchases are going to be few and far between in the future. CZ 40B, FNP9-m. Love me some pistols. I'm thinking it might be time to get into revolvers, since I love my S&W revolvers SOOO much, and my fiance likes to shoot revolvers better. She asked me for a pink revolver for her next birthday (or an XD(M) with pinked out frame if possible) and I'm thinking that a pair of those Charter Arms smaller revolvers, one pink/stainless and the other gold/black would be a neat christmas present set for us. But I like S&W more, so I will have to check out duracoating or anodizing and maybe get a S&W to pink out for her instead.

Gotcha. If you decide to look around again, let me know and I can maybe point you to a few other places to look. Some may have a little better prices, though Hyatts will usually have more inventory.

Gong. I worked at Catawba in May.
Stayed in SC. Whats the big gunshop

I really don't know, basicly I am new to being into guns (I bought a mosin years ago, but really did not get involved till this year) and right now, I just go to a shop, see it is full of glocks, and then go to hyatts where I get good service and amazing selection, (though they are pricy)

Next gun I will take up offers to look about to see what other shops are out there.

I just picked up a cherry 1895 Nagant revolver manufactured at the Tula Arsenal in 1929. I also picked up some 7.62x38R Prvi Partizan ammo for $24.00 a box. This was at a medium-sized gun show in Tulsa.
