Has any ever put a sling on a S&W 629 and if so how did it work, pics would be great. Just in case your wondering this is one of those" sitting around on Sunday " tinkers.

For what purpose? The reasons for a rifle sling are twofold: convenient carry, and tension against the body for greater shooting precision. An N-frame revolver does not need a sling for either of these purposes, since 1. you can carry it in a holster, and 2. there is no shoulder stock against which you can maintain contact with the firearm, producing a steadier hold.

A lanyard, I could see, to keep the weapon from getting away from you if it falls from your grip. But a sling? No sir, I don't see the point.

OK what about a lanyard? As for the sling I ran into a guy that had a sling on his Contender and thats when the thought hit me. Im thinking a sling vs a holster, a sling raise and fire a holster pull out of it and fire. Just at thought.

Tuco-style carry?:D

Is this an 8 3/8" 629 or something?

Otherwise, I don't think a sling makes sense.

S&W does put slings on revolvers, but only on really big ones.

My 10 1/2" Super Blackhawk carries fine in a belt holster, believe it or not (my 629 is a 4" Mountain Gun, so I got it for holster carry).

Used one for my 8'' M29 for years. Twas one of those loop styles used on muzzle loaders or shotguns w/o swivels. I tried a belt holster but it was too long making sitting and walking difficult. Shoulder rigs were uncomfortable and too expensive

Slings on std revolvers

Ok lets say you have a good reason for wanting this done. Your spending the money. Your 629 has a full under lug so we can drill and tap a hole for the front sling swivel stud there about 2 or 3 inches back. Then the hilt can be drilled and tapped for the rear stud and there you go a sling mounted on a 629. We can handle that for you......But I have to agree "Whats the point" when you have the choice of so many good holsters.

Asquires2, I was thinking the very same thing yesterday. I don't think it is so crazy. I have a 629-1 8 3/8 inch, with a Weaver scope. I found an old sling that I could loop one end of over my neck and 1 arm through. Now for the other end, I could maybe us a sling swivel stud with a screw end that would fit into the bottom of a Hogue monogrip. Then attach the sling to the stud and let the pistol hang about waist level. As a plus, you could use the sling as a tension brace against the body for a steady offhand aim. Now I just need to find that swivel stud, or make one myself. Hope this idea and my way of descibing it makes sense to you.
