I called my local Dick's sporting goods and after some info exchanged I gave them the model info of the venture I wanted in 223 rem, he called back and said he could order that rifle for $499. I think better deals on the Venture can be had than $499 when MSRP is $539, I'm going to do some more searching, and wait on a good deal.
Merril no problem on the PM/info. The TC Icon/Venture offers some different options I'm surprised in the general lack of interest from most people. That said anyone who has owned a Icon or Venture has reported superb accuracy, and the action really is nice.
wbwanzar the bolt open on cock (after firing) is somewhat harder than a two lug design. I don't know where you are located, but I would be glad to let you check my Icon out (same bolt etc as venture) and I will see if I can come up with a way to measure the amount of force needed to open the bolt on cocking compared to a remington 700.
The link below gives info on bolt maintenance, I use a moly based grease on all my bolt guns where the bolt rides up the ramp to cock the firing pin. It keeps the bolt from galling, also makes it easier to cock.

Link below gives some info on 3 locking lug actions, the Icon/Venture action took some ideas from custom actions such as the BAT. You can also have a roller ball installed on the bolt to greatly reduce the amount of energy needed to cock the firing pin.
