Puukko Knives

Hello Barry,

Try Ragnars Ragweed forge. Quite a few scandinavian makers listed and prices are reasonable. Out of all of them my most used is a Bruseletto Troll.

Just took a look. Evidently Bruseletto no longer makes a Troll. Try googling "tommi pukko knife" and then go to images until you see something you like.

Have you considered making one yourself? http://brisa.fi/kits/nordic-kits.html This is a Finnish site specializing in hobby knife-making. You can either get a kit, or order blade, handle material and etc. separately. If you opt for the second option I highly recommend the Lauri PT blades - zone hardened from 80CrV2 to about 62HRC at the cutting edge and very affordable. They offer ready made knives also: http://brisa.fi/knives.html

Who makes an affordable pukko knife in the 70-100 dollar range? I am aware of the mora but I'd like something more tradtional.
Moras are often a bit plain and utilitarian. If you want traditional puukko knives, decent but affordable ones are made by Marttiini and Roselli. Your price range limits the options quite a bit but there are lots of puukko manufacturers and knifesmiths out there. Puukko is a really ancient tool and "traditional" can mean lots of different things, depending on the region of origin.

Building your own (from a kit unless you want to forge your blade too) is by far the most traditional way to do this. Carving your own puukko handle has been a matter of pride and principle, something that makes your puukko really yours.

You could also consider Varusteleka, probably the largest military surplus dealer in Finland. I recommend them. And they do ship to the US.

This one being the most "traditional" of the lot:

Also, if you are looking to find puukkos directly from makers consider joining "puukkoareena" group at FB. Although most of the stuff there is in Finnish you can use English also. Lot's of puukko-enthusiasts there - from beginner to master bladesmith.
