PX4 9mm or XD9.......

going with a 9mm for my first handgun, kind of got my mind set on a PX4.
looking for opinions on other handguns in 9mm.
range and hd only, no carry
i know everyone has there favorite but i am looking for a dependable and accurate gun.

I fired both the XD and the PX4 and bought the Beretta. I've very happy with it.... It's been 100% reliable and more accurate than I expected. The trigger has gotten to be quite nice after a couple hundred rounds.

BTW, I like a hammer and don't like the XD double (safety?) trigger. But to each his own.

I here that there customer service stinks and 1 year warrenty.My friend has a beretta full size it shoots good for me but sometimes the shooter gets hit with brass.Most people will tell you go rent a few guns before you buy.This will cost you about 40 to 50 bucks.Xd 9 never shot one but herd good things.

Try them both and buy the one that fits you. I've fired the Berretta Storm and was very impressed with it. The recoil is dead straight back, with little flip, very quick back on target. If I wanted another autoloader, and if Crimson Trace made grips for it, I would buy a Storm. I have no experience with the XD9, so no comment.

I own the Storm in .40, but have three of the XDs in 9mm (subcompact, standard and 5" barrel). The Storm does sit back in the hand nicely. The gun that I shoot most often, however, is the 9mm XD in its 5" tactical guise. I have the SA Custom Carry job done to it and it's a pleasure to shoot. But it does rise a bit in the hand compared to some other guns I have shot.

The XD feels good to me and I like the sameness of the trigger press compared to the double action of the Beretta. But like what everyone else is going to tell you, in this case, subjective truth reigns. If if feels better to your hands for you to shoot well then that's the gun for you.

If you can find a place to rent, I would do that first.

I have owned both. Both are reliable.

I like the PX4 MUCH better than the XD. To me the XD had a mushy, poor trigger and was lower quality - finish, etc..The Beretta seems to be much higher quality for not much more money. XDs just feel very cheap to me.

The recoil on the PX4 is great, not that its too bad on either..I also find the pX4 more accurate therefore more fun at the range.

I sold the XD, still have an XD45, and many Glocks...I would give them all up - except for the Glock 26 and the PX4.

if it's for HD and range only, i would go with whatever feels good in your hand! both have proven themselves dependable! px4 requires a little bit more training cause of it's DA if you get type F or G in the beginning.
remember.. it's not the gun that makes the shooter!

i would take the xd i don't like da/sa guns. but with that said the px4 does feel good and point well.

Just remember -- that opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it!

As others have said, the PX4 is very reliable and for me very comfortable. Recoil is significantly reduced with the rotating barrel assembly. I had a Walther P99 - which is probably the most ergonomic handgun I've ever held - and after I shot it side by side with my PX4, I sold it without looking back. The Storm is easily converted to a G-model (decocker only) which simplifies the manual of arms.

If you do end up carrying it, it's really not that big. I'm wearing mine now and it's just as comfortable (actually, more so) than my Walther P99C was.

Oh -- I forgot to point out that the PX4 comes with three back straps that allow you the ability to customize the grip size to fit your hand best. The medium is perfect for me - but with the small back strap installed, it's my wife's favorite pistol (she's 5'2" with little hands).
