I was at my local gandermountain which is 2 1/2 hours away from me (i didnt go for just gm i was in the area any way) and realy only was there because someone had given me $75 in giftcards and i want to check out what they had. the only thing they had that was a decent deal was a 499 px4 9mm w/ 17rd mags with my gc it was a deal but when they went to run my background check the state said the computer system was down so i told the clerk i would go look around but i couldnt wait long as the weather was looking bad and i wanted to get back on the road so 15min later still no luck and i left. i was so close i could taste it.

Sorry. I have shot the .40 PX4 and think highly of it. Very soft recoil, very accurate, and comfortable. Only things I didn't like about it were the sights and where the safety/decocker was mounted.

ill get one eventually i have another trip planned within the next month or so. I didnt care for the safety either but it would be a range gun and the safety is off most the time anyway beacause when its loaded it in my hand pointed at the target and when it not loaded the slide is back and its on the bench.

I think they're one heck of a gun. You can easily replace the sights and put Trijicons on it for 90 bucks.

I was buying one, and the sight upgrade too, a few weeks back. While the guy went to get the paperwork I started looking at the shotguns and saw a Belgium Browning A5 20ga Mag LNib. The price was not one to pass up so I bought it instead. I still want the PX4 with the Trijicons and will buy it here in the next couple of months when I get the $.

It's very simple to modify the PX4 to be a decocker only. You can replace the "bat wing" safety levers with the slim, stealth version (which automatically converts it to the G-model, "decocker only") or you can simply modify the existing mechanism to remove the safety function.

The PX4 is a great weapon - that rotating barrel lock-up significantly reduces perceived recoil and the interchangeable backstraps allow you to fit the gun to your hand. It's a fine choice for any kind of home use.

I had a free rental to use the other day so I rented the Px4 9mm and I was extremely impressed. It was so much better than I expected. Deadly accurate and very soft recoil.

I bought the Px4 .45 but it also came with some misgivings:

I'm concerned about the strength of the frame. There is considerable flex toward the right side of the frame due to a weak spot on the left. I'm also seeing wear on the top inside of the dust cover: Not good. Also the sidewalls of the voids on the inside of the dust cover are quite thin.

The frame has small dimensional deformations. The most noticeable is also on the right side. It swells out away from the slide by a millimeter or so. No big deal, but why?

Internally there is a mating surface that has a little prong of metal that looks quite vulnerable and weak. With very little effort I was able to get it to block (and slightly mar) the slide during re-assembly.

I hate that the guide rod is plastic.

Small things, but they might turn into big things --Murphy's Law and all.

To be fair the PX4 has many pros:

Very comfortable grip
Shoots straight
Lightweight,
Durable finish on slide
Light Recoil, no flip
Customizeable functions
Compatibility with my CX4
Cool lookin'

I've got over a 1000 rounds through my .40 PX4 without a hitch.

It's my favorite handgun.
