I am building up an old Sistema. I acquired a Kimber adjustable target sight.

I will need to fill the old dovetail on the slide and cut a new one about 1/2" further forward. Is there a correct location, or do I just set it so the rear of the sight is just at or behind the end of the slide?
What angle dovetail cutter is correct?

The elevation screw for the Kimber sight protrudes through and below the male dovetail. I presume the Kimber slide has a hole to accommodate this. Is that hole a blind hole or does it go into the firing pin channel?

Rex,
Go to the Kimber website. Look at their factory guns with adj. rear sights.
The proper installation requires several mill cuts, one of which eliminates the original dovetail.
:)

I see what you mean, but the sight I have does not have part at the rear that extends down. The bottom of the sight is all in one plane, except for the dovetail which of course is a separate piece.

I would consider milling the slide to drop the whole sight down a little for a better profile. Not sure there's enough thickness in the slide to do that.

INstalling 1911 rear sights

It is hard to believe how much metal can come of the back of the1911 type slide.

Cut the top of the slide down far enough to take out the old dove tail cut

Make the new cut far enough forward to have the sight clear the hammer and look right. Not to bad a job if you have the machinery.

I like that. It would sure enough look better that having that big slab of steel perched atop the stock slide. It would also allow a lower front sight.
I think that's what I'll do. Thanks much!
