Hey guys, serious post this time....

I go 2 maby 3 times a year over to eastern washington with my Father-in-Law and go bird hunting, Qual, Chucker, Geese, Duck, Phesant....

I use my 870 when we go for duck, and geese, but... I like to use his o/u when we are hunting for Qual, Chucker, and Phesant.... Im thinkin about buying a nice o/u in 12ga for myself... that way I dont feel like a tool when He offers his to use....

He has a Ruger?? 12ga O/U... I want the same thing, dosent have to be a ruger... I went to the pawn shop, and they had a noname shotgun there, I liked it, until I shot it with snapcaps, I had to move the selector each time is shot it.... The ruger lets you pick the 1st shot top or bottom, then the 2nd trigger pull fires the next round... I dont want to have to work a switch after each shot....

I dont care about brand, just something that wont cost my 1st born, and will hold up....

THanks- Ian

Without knowing the specifics, my guess is that it would be a recoil operated mechanism. My SKB does the same thing with snap caps, but functions normally when firing live ammunition.

Really? I think they only wanted 200 for it, and it looked cheap..... anyways, I would not want a shotgun that couldnot fire shell #2 because shell one was a dud....

Is there a Hot Item O/U shotgun out that is not too pricey?

Define "too pricey." I've seen older used Rugers go for under $600, but they normally go pretty quickly. Newer used Rugers seem to be in the $775-1050 range for 12 gauge. Many of the Turkish guns are cheaper, you might want to check out the Remington Spartan line (I think now discontinued) or the CZ lineup. CDNN often has good sales on some O/Us, you might want to download their catalogue and see what they have.

If you don't want the trigger reset by recoil, that will narrow the field somewhat. I know my Beretta resets with recoil, my old SKB did as well.

Im sure we all would like a citori, but I think im in the $650 price range...

Im not a fan of gold!! or anamals on the side, Plain is ok for me, but engraveing or scrollwork is a plus....

I do like the red lable by ruger, but is there another option for the same thing???

I don't know what doubles aren't recoil operated guns, but you could probably find an older skb or miroku or one of their branded versions (Ithaca 500,600 or Charles Daly) in that range. They would be fixed choke guns most likely.

I like my skb, but find myself grabbing my 20 ga Wingmaster most anytime I do some shooting. Do you just want something different to shoot sometimes? Are you set on an O/U? In that price range, there are lots of good quality semi autos available.

I have to agree with Dale. I would much rather have a good quality pump or semi auto 20 gauge than a cheap over and under. In guns, you will find you often get just what you pay for.

I just enjoy shooting his shotgun when we have hike through the Highland... I guess Im getting a benelli in june from a family friend, I also have an 870 express magnum. I use my 870 for duck, the semi auto for geese, and for some reason I just like/want an O/U.

Im sorry if im sounding like a tool, I guess Im not used to O/U shotguns and how they work, Is the Ruger O/U Recoil op? I have a hard time beliving this?

I know once I loaded the shotgun with the bottom shell loaded and the top with a empty shell in it. When I saw the bird, it went Click, Boom! This was because the shell dident eject (I dont think i have ever seen him Ever clean a gun) I thought they both popped out, but the top dident

The barrel should select the next one after firing. You just have to hit the switch because there was no recoil.

You could pull the trigger on the snap cap, then bang the butt of the gun on the top of your shoe (not the floor so as to not mar the stock) to simulate the recoil. The trigger should pull after doing so.

All doubles are considered 'pricey' as compared to pumps.

If the gun has two triggers, then each barrel can be fired independently regardless of when the other was fired.

On single triggers, if the first barrel did not fire, then one could select the other barrel with the selector.

Guns with ejectors only eject the shell that has been fired. Unfired shells stay in the gun.

I grew up with a single shot brake open shotgun... Im used to that, but for some reason that day it was having trouble with the top shell sticking, and would not eject, or only eject half way... I was dirty tho...

Is the Remington SPR any good? I know its cheap, but, For the 3-4 times a year I would use it...

Is it worth a ****?

Here is a better question, How do the Remington SPR and Ruger Red label Stand up to each other???
