All, my bride has an STI Escort that is starting to show some wear on the slide. It's only 3 years old but while teaching her how to break it down it suffered more than a couple of scratches. The rest of the finish is just worn from shooting. I honestly don't think it was a quality finish from the get go. It's great gun and extremely accurate.

. I am looking for a reputable bluing business in IL or southern WI.

Any recommendations will be appreciated. I just need the slide refinished.

Thanks

I usually recommend folks find a reputable shop and not worry about where it is located. Since all you need is the slide refinished, which does not require costly overnight shipment, that goes double. If you're having trouble with durability, you might want to consider hard chrome. Either way, Accurate Plating & Weaponry is who I'd use for a small refinishing job.

Thank you! I'll check them out. I always try and spend my dollars locally whenever possible. Especially the smaller shops.

I understand that completely, it's just hard to find a good refinishing shop anyway. Same for gunsmiths.

Just read some great posts on rustblueing! I am getting ready to rustblue an old Colt Woodsman and got a lot of really good suggestions on the process. So good in fact, that I decided to join your group. Looking forward to discussing other topics with gun lovers like myself.

Thanks one week turn around

I have 13 years experiencing and was trained at the Colorado School of Gunsmithing. I have the professional set and can duplicate almost any finish. Polishing is done by hand in order to maintain the integrity of the original look. This keeps the flats and rounds from running together. I do a lot of guns that are in great shape no rust or pits just have blue wear and they look factory new at times.
The important thing is not that you have an FFL, but that, we do! We are allowed to ship directly back to you as it is your personal property, but only to you! For entire guns, an adult signature is required upon receipt.

I only blue December, January, and Febuary

I can't recommend a single "bluing shop" anywhere in WI let alone south WI...I'm sure there's a few, I myself would like to know, I've had nothing but problems here since Flintrop's closed the door years ago and Jack Ladwig later retired. Boy did he do some spectacular bluing...wish I could help
